So I reckon that Vulcan will have to wait until 2011 to snag those 2011 EQMs via this route, unless there's a caveat regarding next year's flights that we don't know about.

That's the plan. My first depature is January 6.

Well, I figured out this was not a good example, so I checked my other MRs.

MR#1: Originally 3.2c/eqm, purchasing EQM offered price is 5.6c/eqm, so final costs go up to 4.5c/eqm(double) and 4.9c/eqm(triple).
MR#2: Originally 3.1c/eqm, purchasing EQM costs 5.8c/eqm and final costs are again 4.5c/eqm(double) and 4.9c/eqm(triple).
(assuming Elite minimum 500 RDM/EQM will be counted in double/triple miles)

SoIf I take these offers, very good MRs become just regular MRs.

But, as Vulcan said, if this can push me to 100K EQM, I may consider... 4 SWUs are attractive.

What's the routing on the itinerary that's only charging you 5.6 c/epm?

On TPA-EWR-HKG-EWR-TPA

For 30,000 EQM, the cost is $1,200 or 4 cents/mile

In order to get the above you must accept paying:

For 30,000 RDM the cost is $810 or 2.7 cents/mile

Is it possible to add the additional RDM or EQM on after the ticket has been purchased? For example, if I wanted to buy these miles with my own money on a ticket purchased by my company, is that option available?

Yes, that's how its setup right now.

Purchase screens?

So the RDM/EQM purchase option screens only appear after you've purchased the reservation and are viewing it? Or am I missing something while booking?

Seems like 6.7 cents per EQM is as cheap as it gets.
Too bad there's no way to just buy the EQMs without the RDMs or I'd be all over it.

I was assuming the double/triple EQM will be posted after the flight, thus total flight EQM including Elite Minimum 500 EQM would bw also doubled/tripled.

However, offering displayed on the screen are double/triple of regular EQM (actual flight mileage only), so if EQMs post instantly, perhaps that is the same amount as offered and no difference between Elites and non-Elites.

In that case, the offering price for additional EQM of my reservation jumps up to 7.5c/EQM. Now it is less attractive...:(
(If I buy triple EQM offer, final cost will be 5.8c/EQM)

The slippery slope is that once you "sell" elite status outright, it then becomes a commodity, not a recognition/reward for customer "loyalty".

I've been surprised the reviews are as positive as they are, and I'm with the sentiment above. When I got my preview invite I was shocked to read they were selling EQM, which is certainly a new low vs other legacies (leaving out US Air, which I try to do) - unless I missed it they are at least selling only RDM. To me this is just another example of cheapening elite status and degrading what we can expect as people who fly little rocket up into higher elite strata. Convenient? Yes, probably. A good idea to promote loyalty among really frequent flyers? Not in this one's opinion.

DL offers EQMs quite readily through their CC products as does UA, and I think UA also sells them outside the CC channel. This isn't all that much different other than I think CO might be under-pricing the offers a bit.

Both RDM's and EQM's post instantly.

While others might think the prices are high I find the pricing to be rather low when you add the EQM's.

I was scheduled to be at about 80,000 EQM's for the year with no further travel scheduled. For $1,340 I got 20,000 RDM's and 20,000 EQM's which guarantees for at least the 4 SWU's which I had no shot at getting. Others may think I was crazy and overpaid, but when you consider the miles and co-pays it would cost to normally upgrade 4 segments I'll take the SWU's.
