I wonder what the story was behind this barricaded plane at EWR...

So, I figure that one has to proactively plan for potential estate taxes -- not knowing what the 'threshold' may ultimately be! In my case -- no longer being married -- & with my kids being primary bennies -- I have to make sure that all my docs are in order. Fortunately my brother has agreed to serve as my executor & trustee!^ His best friend is an atty & municipal judge!^^:-: I keep telling my son that he might want to consider law school in the future -- at least for the knowledge gained!

Congress got drowned by other agenda items, and the healthcare issue plus homeland security will overshadow everything for the near future. Don't count on any "statesmanship" here.

For planning, having the documents in place are key. Making sure folks know where your assets are is also a key. Incapacity planning (getting into a car accident but not dying) is even a more important issue, particularly with minor children.

:td: I left what appeared to effectively be a 35% tip last night because I tipped on the pre-discount menu prices.

Are we going to sing ELO / Jeff Lynne "Don't Bring Me Down" now?

He did that very happily for more than 10 years and then just has disappeared from sight but he had told me some stories about the huge tips that he made when he found things and the owners turned up for them.

Hope you made out well on this one.

Doormen have some of the best gigs in the business for straight cash. Concierges and bellmen do better in the connections and favors departments.

CM, are you a RC employee? If so, I'd love to hear your take on their employee training/orientation programs.

No, I work for the parking contractor part-time. The RC in PHL does have openings, but as an employee of the contractor I cannot solicit myself to the hotel. The parking contract manager made that brutally clear when he saw my resume.

Yup; you nailed it. Assuming that the guy who brought the phone up to the condo was telling the truth, when he knocked on the door he was arguing rather loudly with his girlfriend. Resident opened the door and the guy started to tell him how the phone was found, and did not get more than a few words out before he got a door slammed in his face.

I believe in karma, yes...and I will come out ahead while this guy will hopefully fall down an open manhole.

I know -- but on the 'revenue' side -- can't believe that it wasn't addressed earlier!

Good reminders for everyone - never too early to 'plan'! I am familiar w/all those 'documents' -- am needing to update everything! (Also, remember, I'm a fin'l planner -- so, these are all basic parts of a 'comprehensive' plan!;))

Did you wait on tables in a past life?!;) I always remember to account for any 'discounts' when it comes to tipping. However, I won't tip on the taxes!

Going to your comment regarding revenue, don't be so sure that they aren't addressing the revenue issue with the status quo. Taxable estates in most years represents a very small percentage of total estates (1-2% of total estates). There are many possible taxable estates in this format.
