Larry wouldn't ask that question - almost on topic, not completely , and not enough of a lead-in ;)

My recollection is that the HH location is a bit out of the way on the main drag there.

Thanks for the link. Great pics! I know the Hilton is not necessarily convenient, but we would mostly be going just to relax.... sightseeing would be secondary.

Unlike him asking Sharon Tate's sister how she felt about Roman Polanski brutally murdering Sharon Tate. Genius.

KING: Have you ever talked to Roman Polanski?

TATE: I have.

KING: How can you have a civil conversation with someone who so brutally murdered your sister?

TATE: Roman didn't murder my sister.

KING: I'm sorry. When the fact that he would have this terrible thing happen to him after the death of your sister, to once again focus you into the public light. That's what I meant.

Good point -- it is not wordy enough nor is it dumb enough.

This is turning into a good football game.

If there are :td: on the Aloft, I have a saver at the JW Marriott also at a very good rate.

I've stayed in that Aloft 5-6 times, all one night stays, since it opened. No real issues with it; it's a pretty standard Aloft. They do charge for parking there, and you have the option of valet or self parking. Self parking is just as easy as valet at that location, and $3-4 cheaper/night (I think self parking is about $6). Rooms are standard Aloft rooms, very contemporary in design, a little basic, but well equipped for one or two people. Beds are comfortable, bathrooms are nice, showers are excellent, but like all Alofts, shower gel and shampoo/conditioner are located in a dispenser mounted on the shower wall. If you visit the pool or exercise room, you'll find it very clean with brand new high-end equipment. Lobby lounge area has a pool table, computers, comfortable seating, a good bar with some very tasty signature cocktails. Breakfast is not free for anyone, and everything is priced a la carte. However, the food I've bought at breakfast has generally been very good.

Honestly, Aloft is so new that they are all pretty much 100% alike, and I haven't had a bad experience at one yet. It's definitely got some touches of the W style, but at a much cheaper price, but you're also staying in a limited service hotel, and the amenities will match that. Aloft is like a marriage between Hilton Garden Inn/Marriott Courtyard and W. It's dependable, totally standardized, but new and comfortable, although I the style and design elements aren't everyone's cup of tea. But that location is hard to beat in Houston, and they have some great prices.

Good luck pushing those beds. I'm pretty sure the platform is mounted to the wall. The bedstands most definitely are, and would block pushing it.

For one or two people, I don't find the king rooms too small at all. Most of my stays at Aloft have been just myself, and I don't need much more space. What the heck would I do with it?

She actually seems to have some talent too, unlike Sandra Lee who really does nothing remarkable with her show. I'm sorry, but telling me to use a boxed cake mix and then put something extra into it isn't really teaching me anything. If I want to watch a cooking show, I'd really like to learn actual technique, and how to do make something that's not your everyday convenience food.

It's a private sale website thingy.. mostly fashion/clothing but they occasionally venture into other stuff. All high end, RL Black Label, Helmut Lang, Eli Tahari for example (and that's just the current men's sale i browsed). It's a contract sample-sale sort of thing from what I've gather.

But, aside from clothes, it has a section/website called JetSetter that offers luxury and boutique getaways for what appears to be as good of a deal as the clothes.

Things like the Tabacon "Thermal spa" and resort in Costa Rica for $120 a night.

I dunno, still poking around, but all in all it seems like a good thing to be a part of. Each sale only last 72 hours and then it's gone, so it's kinda like a high-end Woot.com

Anyone else in the Box a member? If you need a referal I can provide (otherwise they waitlist you.. not sure how long that process takes.) Full disclosure, i'll get $25 store credit if you make a purchase after using my referal.

So, Gilt and Jetsetter anyone..? For some reason this seems like baglady territory. ;)

Yep, my partner is a member, and we've bought several things from there. It's not really a samples thing; it's more like closeouts on discontinued high-end merchandise. I have some shoes from the site, and he has bought shoes and a couple of watches. We tend to watch the Jetsetter portion of the site too for deals on places we're planning to travel to.

I've been in two and both of them the walk in shower unit almost flooded because the drain was too slow!!! EHHHHH. that was my main gripe. in fact once it did overflow a bit into the bathroom floor (which also had a drain so I guess they planned for that)

Auntie Sally does nothing. Like i said her driving friendly drinks are downright dangerous.
