Just got home from my JFK-ORD-SEA-IAH-NRT-EWR-SEA-EWR whirlwind weekend. Spent 26 hours in Tokyo, had a blast in Shinjuku and Ginza. AA took good care of me, will post about it in AA forum later. CO was generally good, with the Houston-based employees actually beating out the Newark-based staff for the first time ever in my travel experience.
Interestingly, the upgrade did not clear on my final SEA-EWR leg (ironically enough, this particular segment -- a redeye transcon flown in exit row coach - was my requalifying flight for Platinum Elite!) even though the flight showed F seats available for sale up to 6 hours before the flight, and my being #2 on the upgrade list. In fact, only one person was "upgraded" on the entire flight -- appeared everyone else in F either bought instant upgrade or staright F tix, and a bunch of them switched onto my flight at the last minute. CO had major trouble with my bag on my return NRT-EWR-SEA-EWR flights. The bag tag would not print automatically at Narita, and it ultimately took some sorting out with a redcoat to get a manual bag tag for my luggage. Sidebar: United Airlines now handles CO flights at Narita, and as you might expect, they are very much "green thumb" and afraid to apply anything but a strict interpretation of the rules. For instance, expect plenty of resistance should you attempt to make a same-day change at Narita - the agents there believe 1) no fees are waived for Plats, and 2) the routing cannot be changed. |
OK, since I seem to be here by myself:
Morning, Box. |

Morning, Box. In addition, welcome home HeathrowGuy glad you had a great trip! Also glad AA worked for you. As you can tell from my signature, I kinda like it.;) I have been thinking a great deal lately that a CO and AA combo for my flying would be a great one-two punch!:-: |

All that talk about video games late last night was making me glad that I have girls whose games concern caring for animals and so forth -- at least until they just got into a fight over the Barbies they were playing with under the dining room table. |

This is the same impression I had of LH service in Business Class to and from FRA. I was disappointed and felt it was far inferior to CO service in BF for this reason. I also mentioned this to the LH inflight person the wednesday night of the DO. I know that Jennifer from LH mentioned that with CO as a partner that they were going to be driven to improve their product now. Only time will tell.

Morning Box. Almost 10 hours of sleep and I feel rested, but on the other hand, the cold I started coming down with two days ago in Amsterdam is worse. I can hardly breathe.

The last line of this post pretty much sums up my current opinion of DL.

G'morning, Box.
Mild hangover here this morning, combined with my not really having slept for the past four nights finally starting to catch up. Nap time this afternoon is looking VERY nice right now. |
G'morning, Box,
Welcome home ssullivan, hope you're feeling better. Phase I of winterize the pine bushes is complete. I have them wrapped in snow fencing so they don't split when the snow comes cascading(so I'm told) off the metal roof. Need to hit Home Depot for a few more metal stakes and finish up zip tying everything together. |
Morning, Box. At the PHX RCC watching WN planes come and go. I inquired about being protected on later flights if we miss our DEN connection and was given the information I was afraid of: All UA, US, and CO flights are zeroed out and oversold in Y today. At this point, the only hope I think we have if we do actually miss the connection is AA through DFW.
Fingers, toes, and whatever else we got are crossed. :-: |

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/12894255-post59.html Stated somewhat differently, NW would let you get "the better end of the deal" from time to time if it meant keeping you over the long run. With DL, it is more focused on the here and now, so any "concession" given needs to be justified up front. YMMV |

Good morning / almost afternoon Box. Looks to be a nice sunny and warmish day here. Floors vacuumed (how they got that dirty is a mystery) and with warmish weather, it's time to put the last of the outdoor decorations up.
