On the other hand, there was the trip where I consumed probably $50 worth of mini-bar liquor at the W New Orleans that they never charged me for. :D

ALCO is banned from the hublette until further notice - Great Lakes Brewing Company just released their famous Christmas Ale! :)

When is the Great Lakes Brewing Company at CLE supposed to open?
I will be stopping through there again in December. |

Why can't I get a phone that has everything I want? Apparently asking for the equivalent of an iPhone with a hardware keyboard and UMA access is asking way too much. Can't someone build a device that combines all available features into one package, without forcing compromises?

But how much liquor was that really? About 4 drinks? :D
I've since forgotten. It was the last night of a pretty crappy trip to my Louisiana client. I didn't care. I just wanted to drink and pass out, which is more or less what I did. |

I haven't booked a hotel room through the corporate travel agent in years. I don't see why I should. I get reimbursed for the stay based on the receipt the hotel gives me. Our accounting department can't tell from that how the room was booked. They don't look for anything from the travel agent to match it against. I have coworkers who swear you'll not get reimbursed for a hotel stay or car rental not booked through the travel agent. Then I tell them I've been doing both for nearly five years and nobody has ever questioned it. I also manage to get myself into much nicer hotels for the same, or cheaper, rates than some of the places they're staying because of it.
My job description says nothing about being a profit center for our travel agent. I use them as little as possible. The nice thing about working with a company that's big enough to be a component of the DJIA is that our negotiated prices are actually good. This week I'm in a Hyatt Place for $69/night. Best price on Hyatt's site was $109. In most non-Podunk areas, I have a choice between a couple of Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott, or IC Group properties. |

What is UMA? I'm looking at going with Sprint for the Blackberry Tour 9630. It is EVDO Rev. A capable, can do GSM in Europe, and I can get a voice plan with 450 minutes, any mobile to any mobile for free, unlimited Blackberry data for web/Google Maps, GPS, and tethering so I can have Internet access through my router or laptop for $85 a month. Considering the other options out there, it may be the best deal for my needs right now.
http://www.umatechnology.org/overview/ Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) technology provides access to GSM and GPRS mobile services over unlicensed spectrum technologies, including Bluetooth and 802.11. By deploying UMA technology, service providers can enable subscribers to roam and handover between cellular networks and public and private unlicensed wireless networks using dual-mode mobile handsets. With UMA, subscribers receive a consistent user experience for their mobile voice and data services as they transition between networks. |
