I am so glad Corzine isn't going for a recount. That man makes my skin crawl. Mind you, Christie doesn't do much for me either!!

Al Sharpton

I agree on that. Unfortunately Houston's voters have been fairly hostile toward mass transit development when it has been up for a vote. It's a miracle that the Metro Solutions vote passed (barely) a few years ago. At least the tide seems to have turned in favor of expanding transit options in the city but there's a LOT more that must be done.

Just booked hotel in Boston for our upcoming trip to see the Harry Potter exhibition at the Boston Science Musuem. (OH - van is full, sorry)

I cannot believe how darned expensive the hotels are in Boston. Ended up booking the Marriott Copley Place, using an AAA rate. At least it has a concierge lounge, so the kids can raid the sodas and cookies!!!

"Starting tomorrow, we are going to turn Trenton upside down!" Yeah, sure...

Boring speech.

Now that I can sleep in peace knowing Corzine is out - :D -, I'm going to bed!

Good night, Box!

You should have seen the Atlanta mayoral race. Six candidates, most of which all said exactly the same things in every debate they did. I didn't vote, in part because I was so ambivalent about the whole thing that I didn't get to early voting in time to take care of it, and I'm out of town today.

I'm staying on a futon for this weekend's trip to BOS.

There are rumors in the local engineering scene that the 290/610 Transit Center will be turned into a train hub at some point in the future.

Much of the reason rail plans on I-10 were abandoned is due to the Congressman that represents much of that corridor, not city officials. Metro was pretty much locked out of that deal. Granted, the HOT lanes in the center of the freeway were built to be able to support the weight of trains, allowing for the conversion of those lanes to a train corridor at some point in the future, but there's no way the HCTRA is ever going to let go of those lanes.

And those aren't rumors about the Northwest Transit Center. That has been in Metro's plan for years. The Uptown/Post Oak light rail line will have its northern terminus there, and that center will provide connections several proposed commuter rail lines, as well as the light rail line that runs from Downtown out west along Washington.

I've been on longer trips than that! I have been all over this beautiful country on Amtrak which may be why I HATE it!

I think I remember you saying that before.

Amtrak's long haul travel could be really nice, but it isn't. It was fine for the trip I did, but I don't have a huge desire to do it again. And I certainly couldn't imagine doing it in coach.

I voted today, live, in an actual polling place...for only the second time in my life. (all the others have been absentee ballot!) In March 2000 in Ohio, it was fun paper punching ("chad" at that point meant a fish, or a country) - since then, apparently, we've gone to giant touchscreens. Who knew. :p

Ok, for you NE corridor train folks... Couple colleauges and I took the train from baltimore down to dc to meet another couple colleagues for dinner and drinks. Much fun and drink had by all. Now on the 10p from DC back to Baltimore, properly lubricated. This isn't so bad a way to travel after all. Almost as good as the trains in the UK. :)

Interestingly, I have now lived a ~1.5 hr train ride from NYC in two different directions. The difference is that, unfortunately, unlike New Haven, Princeton Junction is NOT the end of the line. No more dozing off on the way home from work/play in the city...instead, I have to set alarms and try to stay awake...I'm QUITE worried that one of these days I will pass out and wake up in Trenton at 1 AM.

The only Amtrak I've ever done has been the NYC-Boston route a couple of times. I'd like to try it out west sometime.

Just think about the highway robbery that goes on during college graduation season. For what my parents paid last spring, we should have housed an entire platoon.

The city officials were most certainly involved with the I-10 trainwreck as well as the Congressman.

The rail was seen as lose-lose but there were $$ signs with HOT.

Reading studies on light rail and knowing that most rail basedass transit
is severely in the red across the nation, I am much more inclined to support improvements to buses, bus routes, stops, etc.
