Wow - WikiTravel really makes South Africa sound like a safe place.

Many places are not that safe for foreigners, though CPT is noted to be different than the mess called Jo'burg.

we went to Hawaii on our vacation this summer

There's a travel theme forming there: "Locales that don't do Daylight Savings." If you've vacationed in AZ, all you're missing in North America is a little bit of Indiana, I think.

Interesting new route from Airtran: CAK to MKE operated by SkyWest CRJs. Um, okay....

Not only missed the first half (which mattered little; it was, after all, Ivy League, not real, football) but also a halftime show that was long remembered for its, well, bawdy good humor.

:p re: Ivy League football. It's been very funny to come back and watch Harvard-Yale after my SEC years...probably most of the high schools in Louisiana could give either of those teams a run for their money, poor things. It's a great excuse for a reunion, though - in lieu of an official "homecoming," that's the yearly event for which one can expect the largest number of alums to come back (across all class years).

Ooohhhh. Lucky him. I have no idea what I would do in that situation - there are friends, good friends, and "can you get out of bed at 1 am and come collect me" friends.

As you know, one of the east side lines was essentially built to get commuters from Shaker Heights downtown. The problem is that it is only useful for going from Shaker or Euclid downtown or to the airport.

Phudnik is totally right - a more interconnected "web" would be much better, though I personally got very lucky growing up because my school was at the eastern terminus of one line, and my house was a block from a stop on the same line. I idn't take the RTA to school that often but every once in a while it was a better alternative to walking if I didn't have a ride. And then Shaker Square, downtown, and the airport were all super easy.

I never drove in Boston until the year after I graduated - and I remember thinking "now I have to learn to navigate above ground - so different!"

Yes, they kept alive some football traditions dead for generations in the rest of the country: the single wing, the drop kick.

There are homecoming-philes of course. I happened to be in Cambridge couple years ago during ReunionFest, and the Class of '37 (do the math!) official location was a meeting room in Currier House. I wondered if oxygen and Emergency Response was stashed away close at hand.

I am thinking of doing a IAH-ORD-JFK-ZRH // VIE-JFK-ORD-IAH redemption for the summer.

I figure if I'm going to burn the miles to Europe, it better be good. I am tempted to burn them to Asia but Japan and Australia/NZ are our only interests.

So far, I have JFK-IST-FRA-JNB in TK and LH F. I'm not sure if the IST-FRA backtracking will fly, but I suppose I will find out when I call. Finding 2 seats has been pretty easy as well. ^

I'm still searching for the return, but it will probably just be in C (to allow for more carriers) with a stop over somewhere in Europe.

It's a shame you guys need to route through ORD to get to JFK.

A shame, indeed. Doesn't this require the JFK -> LGA shuffle?

We spent a day in Niagara on the Lake this summer. It's very pretty, and quite a nice spot for a day trip. I enjoyed it. Wouldn't really want to spend too many days there, though.

I used to live in Tempe and I've been to Indiana (just realized that I need to add that trip to my FM).
