On the Hockey Do - I can change my return flight on WN, picking up a "non-stop that's actually a connection" (completely remove the possibility of VDB) and get $12.50 back OR stay on existing flights ...

Looks like the next aircraft going in for the :-:A paint job is a 737-700....

Anyone have an idea what ship number this might be?

Doesn't CO also outsource some maintenance work to AMA? How do you know this is definitely going in for the :-: paint?

I already have over 500 messages in the larger of the two classes that started Saturday (less than a week ago). And yes, I've read and responded to all.

In true ALCO style, someone who actually has traveled has something interesting to say, instead of logging inconsequential moments of one's life, or irrelevant opinions of someone who rarely travels. Go ALCO!

I've never understood aircraft maintenance that requires empty flying to arrive at. Can the cost of labor and square footage really be that much cheaper to the point that flying an empty jet makes sense on some level?

I *don't* know it's going in for paint, I do know that AMA does most of the paint work, but IIRC, the MX on 737s is done in IAH, HOU, and to an extent LAX too.

I could be wrong, of course. Won't be the first time. :D

How would an economist answer that question? ;)

Haha. Funny you should make the reference. The instructor thought very highly of my first assignment, and I'm falling behind on the rest of the course. I all of a sudden budgeted the flight home from FRA to catch up on everything.

In answer to the question, if it didn't make financial sense for them it wouldn't be happening. All decisions are rational.

I'm sure you'll do fine in the class - I teach my managerial economics course by first proving that the students already know the rules without fully understanding the concept. In fact, that was the first of the two conference presentations I wrote today.

On the second thought - with limited exceptions, decisions are rational. And airlines have rarely made financial sense ... But I digress. I would look towards opportunity cost. What's preferable to have at your major airports when space is constrained - overnight maintenance / light checks for the vast majority of your fleet or heavy maintenance / time-consuming tasks for few aircraft? If you choose the latter, where does the majority of the fleet get serviced?

That's too easy of a yes or no question. Of course it's preferable to have the light maintenance work done at the airport, since you're cutting down on fuel and other expenditures associated with moving the aircraft.

Didn't I say you know what you need? Just have to ask the right questions. My students are told in the first communication that "What are you trying to achieve?" is a question to draw focus, not challenge / confront.
