Agreed. Around the same time Iphone 1.0 came out, T-Mobile was rolling out its hotspot@home service (poor timing on T-mo's part, as they didn't get any news coverage). Here's something I was able to use in spades when I was in Israel, saving me many shekels. I'd like to see the Iphone do that. When it does, I may become a customer to an unlocked Iphone.

Exactly the same reaction from szg when he got to NY last week. Did you notice if your cabin crew also conversed with each other in French? He was in 1A (and 1B, SEN privilege) and overheard lots of French up in front of him.

It is very good for the consumer segment, but that doesn't make it revolutionary.

When did this become the Travel Technology forum?? ;)

The best thing that Apple did with the iPhone was to introduce visual voicemail. It's such a simple idea* you wonder what took so long to see something like it. I'm sick and tired of annoying voicemail systems with their obtuse menus.

* so simple I would call it revolutionary.

While it may be revolutionary in the consumer market it is old hat in the corporate the world, and I mean old. I've had direct access to my VM messages in an inbox for over 9 years. All through Outlook and an integrated PBX system at the office. It can now be done natively with just Exchange 2007 and the PBX, not requiring an extra voice mail server, though the MS solution is still not fully baked.

But the concept of seeing a list of all VMs and then clicking on the one you want to hear is old hat. Sorry. ;)

I just booked the flights for my honeymoon next year. The bad part is that I booked it though AA because the price was ~$400 less per ticket than CO and now there are no chances for free upgrades:( and I will be Plat next year on CO. At least I will get double miles for being Plat on AA that I will probably never use. CO why couldnt you have been competitive on NYC-SJO?

I would like to take this opportunity to express my displeasure with a certain large clawed otter. I'm still playing MyVirtualAirline for reasons passing understanding.

Dude, that's not right. You need to lighten up a little, maybe snort some loquat. It will pass.

Damn, you made me click an Omni thread and reply to it.

But that does sound pretty painful.

I think it is a big step for cellphones and cellphone service. We have Exchange 2007 integration at work and it is nowhere as nice as being able to select the voicemail on my phone and listen to it when I want while on the go.

You're telling me! Though, apparently I don't have a high enough post count or haven't met some other prerequisite to view the particular forum you linked.

In other news, LeRoi Moore, sax player for Dave Matthews Band, passed away today. :( They canceled the show in LA tonight, and while I would certainly understand if they canceled the rest of the tour, I am hoping my tickets to the show on Friday in San Diego aren't worthless. :(

Thanks so much. How is BCN? Love that city. Wish I was there :) Sad to hear about PrivatAir - can scratch that off my to do list. So anyone have odds on CO spreading the travel delay for Fay out to the 21st since it looks like it will boomerang? I'm going to postpone my trip for obvious reasons and while CO may waive the change fee (but may not - and seriously, this is the 7th time I've changed this trip -and it's not a Y fare but is more expensive than one now), I'd love to take advantage of the freebee change. Goodnight all - have a great one. By the way, while I love the tilt (even though it feels like a brick) I think the I phone is very cool and I'd take it as a third phone in a heartbeat.

That sucks. I have tickets to Friday's show so I really hope they don't cancel it, that would totally suck.

The real issue is CDMA's power consumption -- it's a notorious hog for power and it's why the 3g iPhone is capped at 2x speed of EDGE, when in reality, the HSDPA network can sustain much faster speeds. As for EVDO, while the service is decent, the providers are notoriously bad from a customer service perspective. I wouldn't be caught dead with a Verizon or Sprint phone and quite frankly, I look forward to the day CDMA dies and Quallcomm withers away. It's a sad state, any phone that has CDMA is tagged at $50 more then it should simply due to royalty charges and since they somehow managed to convince the standards bodies that 3g should be based on 3g, we're all screwed until 4g comes out.

Ok, i'm off the soap box. :)

Quite true. The reality is that phone manufacturers haven't been able to come up with a UI that is reliable and easy to use for a converged device. Sure, Nokia and Sony have nailed it on their basic phones, but look at Windows Mobile, Symbian or PalmOS and they UIs are terrible! So, yes, the iPhone is better in that forum, but that's simply bc at the end of the day Apple is a UI company. That is why they have survived and continue to survive. With their move to Intel, the hardware is no longer unique and it's amazing that their prices haven't dropped when it's evident that their costs have dropped substantially by being able to use commodity parts.

Btw, I'm typing this on my MacBook Pro, so i'm not anti-apple, though i do think they've gotten a bit too greedy recently....
