Any opinions on the SPG properties in MSY? I'm thinking of burning one of my SPG50 certs on the W French Quarter.

This routing interests me for the PRG DO - IAH-EWR-HAM-VIE ;)

It's a little pricey right now, but interesting nonetheless.

I was actually considering the same out of EWR as it has shown up a few times as one of the cheaper routings available right now. Overall, the winter fares to Europe are still quite  but I expect that to change in the next month or so.

El otter is the master of MSY SPG, I personally did not like the W FQ, as it was very small, and the other W is very close to the French Q and usually much cheaper.
BTW do you know how the SPG50 actually works ?

It takes the rack rate and spits out half right? The rack rate is usually higher than the rate on the website.

I am looking to do this over NYE and stay through the new year. Thanks for the advice on the other W, it is actually cheaper and looks just as nice.

My top choice would be W Poydras, then Westin Canal Place (but only if SPG 50 yields a decent rate on a river-view suite), then W French Quarter, then Sheraton.

Is Sheraton like the Courtyard of SPG? I haven't stayed in a Sheraton in years but it seems like they aren't exactly swanky places.

ROTFL!

For countertops I think you're better off with granite or one of the manufactured quartz composites.

aloft is more like Courtyard.

Sheraton is like HGI in my opinion, hit or miss.

It depends on the property. The newly remodeled ones are outstanding, and on-par with new-build, full-service Hiltons.

Yes. They usually offer the best value on suites in leisure markets, where there is little differentiation in rack-rate between suites and regular rooms, and where BAR rates are generally close to rack. Sheraton Old San Juan, Westin St. Maarten Dawn Beach, Westin Puerto Vallarta, Westin Los Cabos, et. al. all offer excellent SPG 50 value.

IME, Sheratons are hit or miss - some are fantastic and others are to be avoided. Four Points would be closer to a Courtyard, but Four Points are a little less predictable than CYs.
