It's on the high side of the FM commercial radio band, and lowest commercial aviation radio frequency allowed is 108.0. There's probably something in the atmosphere that is making the AA signal bleed down into the commercial band. I don't know the science behind it, but it's along the same lines as when big-time CB radio users back when they were all the rage used to piss off their neighbors by having their radio traffic come through the speakers of the TVs next door.

I spent some time trying to design printed circuit boards in such a way to avoid harmonics from the 800MHz and 1900MHz bands.

Can you tell if it's pilots talking to controllers, or does it sound more like mechanics and dispatchers? It could be coming from JFK somewhere.

It is likely Tower/Ramp/other ATC comms as most two-way radios that operate in that range have privacy squelch built in. But I could be way off on that.

I just turned on LiveATC for PHL Ramp and the first flight I heard was CO1919.

ETA: I didn't think 1919 was a PHL flight number, and I was right. I just happened to pick up the CO charter that the Bucs are using to come in for playing the Eagles. They are on a 753, but the PDA site won't tell me what ship it was.

Its the actual birds as I just picked up Jet Blue also. I can't hear the tower, just the aircraft confirming details. It hasn't happened in a few minutes though so maybe the harmonics changed tune:eek: Actually there it goes again.

I enjoyed listening to KAUS last week while ssullivan was on a NW flight to IAH that diverted to AUS due to WX. Lots of flights waiting and lots of ATC chatter related to it.

RF signals are waves so your ability to pick them up on a resonate harmonic frequency will change as you and the aircraft change position. Chances are that you are out of phase for tower comms but in phase based on location for the aircraft themselves.

I wish I was smart enough to major in RF engineering because it is really, really cool. We did a lot of that in preparation for ham radio licensing (KE5BGY here).
