Just book on Expedia. There is no compelling value to book on .bomb.

IIRC, it has always been a benefit. More than 55K Status Mi. in a year, and you get Status--->RDM rollover, plus the ability to nominate someone to BD Silver. It costs a certain amount of miles to nominate someone. I don't recall how many (15K or thereabouts, I think). Be sure to work that into any CC trade valuation.

Just booked five of 'em babies myself. No creative routing since I have to be ready to sandwich it between some business flights but will use the business flights for positioning.

Most likely it's because there is a single-cabin aircraft in the mix. If you change the "First (lowest)" to "Economy (lowest)" it should show you the same flights with the option to select them and use the HUP fare basis as it's stlil the lowest price.
