Thanks anyway. I thought I saw something in the ToC's from NW that waitlisting was not permitted, but the provision seemed ambiguous.
In any event, I think i'll probably just grab the less convenient itin that routes through SLC but has G already available on both segments.
The other itin has a 763 with BE seating on the long segment, though, so I was hoping to SWU my way into that if G becomes available.

Sadly, I don't know the answer to your question - when I've done mileage upgrades in the past, I wouldn't book an itinerary unless I would immediately clear all legs. I've yet to redeem a PMU (or even take a flight) since achieving Platinum status for the first time.

Lack of assigned seating and the cattle call boarding process are dealbreakers for me. With CO, I can still prereserve an exit row seat, even if it is on a CRJ.

Plus, BWI has an elite security line now, and if I flew WN on the return, I would have to walk all the way from the P Club to the end of B.

The cattle call is actually not so bad anymore, provided that you check in early enough. For me, staying off the CRJ would be worth the 45 mins on WN.

I didn't know about BWI's elite security line, and I agree that the walk from the P Club to the end of B in CLE is inconvenient.

Stuck in traffic was a premature description...four lanes of 95 ground to a halt because some schmuck had a flat tire. Rubbernecking should be a crime...it is nothing more than the sick part of someone's brain deep down hoping that they witness a fire or a fatality.

This story may be apocryphal, but when I lived in NYC 15 years ago I remember hearing about a several-mile backup on the Henry Hudson due to a couple making out in the grass in Riverside Park.

I-95 between Baltimore and Phila is no fun even if there is no traffic.

Either I am dense (entirely plausible) or both BoltBus and MegaBus don't seem to give a care that I want to go to DC from Philly. Neither company's site is accepting that as a valid routing.

Did you try Apexbus.com?

Same thing. I guess the bus companies think they can't compete against the trains.

Wikipedia suggests that they don't run buses Philadelphia to DC. Peter Pan doesn't seem to offer that route either. Looks like Greyhound or one of the Chinatown lines are the only ones that do.

Hope this is a static link.

I might consider Greyhound, but this is for my mother.

Yes, BWI D Concourse has had an elite /first class security lane since earlier this year. If you are CO elite, you must be Gold or Plat to access the lane, or have an F boarding pass.
I'm sure WN has improved and would be willing to take it on that route, but with guaranteed elite access ans pre-reserved exit row seating, I will stick with CO, especially when the price is the same even despite my hate of the CRJ.

Might not be a bad idea for 8/15 since Amtrak is coming up >$100 RT. I could use an unused ZFV codeshare ticket (earning an EQP for it of course :p) to get to Philly and meet you there and we could hop on the bus.

That might be an idea, Steve. ^

The one-way walk-up fare on that route generally is between $44 and $60 for the Regional, depending on day and time. It gets cheaper if you get one of the advance purchase promo fares.

I was looking at the lowest fares to/from Trenton with a AAA discount....I guess I should check Philly too although the bus at $30 round-trip and using a freebie to get from TRE to ZFV might be the best deal going. Either that or I could just drive and pick people up on the way (although I don't look forward to going through what CM did today traffic-wise and knowing this group we may be drunkenly staggering back to the train station that night). :p

Yes, the biggest issue is how much you all intend to drink. If you are going to drink more than a de minimus amount, I would take the train or bus. If someone is not really going to drink, it would be more convenient to drive. Perhaps you could take the train one way and the bus the other.
