The failure mode is fully transparent. (yes I know someone who worked on that)

Hi all! Just a quick question -- is it really necessary to get to EWR 3 hrs. ahead for a 10pm flight to GRU (BF) -- or can I get there 2 hrs ahead? Since I will be able to do elite check-in -- it should, theoretically, be pretty efficient, right?!

You can get away with 2 hours for a 10 PM flight provided the Elite Access people aren't hiding at the BF end and no matter how much waving you do to them, they don't seem to see you just to put you bag tag on. For a 7:20 AM INTL check-in I'd recommend the three hours after me just making the 60 minute check-in because of all of the non-elites in the elite access line and having to "cut the line" at the end to make the cut-off point.

So I got one of the IAH-HNL UA special for February (Prez day weekend). If I apply a UA upgrade instrument (CR1 or SWU) that will expire before the actual flight will it stick since the upgrade instrument is pulled immediately?

Sorry to hear that. Hope it works out for you.

We just dodged a layoff bullet in my household. My partner returned from vacation to find out his employer was laying off a bunch of people this week. He was pretty convinced the writing was on the wall for him, but found out this morning that nobody in his department is affected in this round. He's looking for another job for other reasons, but it would really be nice if he could hold on to the one he's got while he's looking for the next one. However, we're still looking at a few expenses we can trim from our budget, including selling his car and going to just one car, since it's very, very rare that we really need two cars.

That definitely has the potential to be an inconvenience if it fails on a long haul flight when you just want to get some sleep. I wonder what kind of failure rate they expect and how easily they can be repaired or swapped out...

Maybe they'll use corkboard above the windows and if the shade fails on a longhaul they will just pin a blanket over it. :p

And from the run of play, no less! By a guy who couldn't get off the bench at a second division team in Espaņa.

Shockingly, given the Uruguayan ref who gave out three red cards the last time he called a US match, no one has been  carded yet.

Having corkboard could also help with the construction of a stink shield! :D

I hope walking away from this for a little bit helps put all this back in perspective. It's not worth getting angry over, or jeopardizing friendships and contacts you've developed along the way.

It's an LCD panel like they have in the expensive home windows that do it. I doubt they are repairable so it would be a swap out.

The two Marriotts I frequent most these days seem to always been on Fox. And if they're not, it takes about 2 minutes for someone to walk in and raise a big fuss and demand it gets changed to that channel.

I know a bit about this from my days in manufacturing. The short answer is that the "shades" are unlikely to malfunction, but if they do malfuction, it will be because of a problem with the electric current that must be applied to keep the liquid crystals in a fully translucent state (unless they are using reverse-mode liquid crystals, in which case the liquid crystals will remain translucent in the non-electrified state).

LOL - that's because you only seem to travel to the deep South.
