LOL. Just wait until petroleum becomes obsolete, just like heavy manufacturing in the U.S. beginning in the 1970's. The entire city of Houston probably will burn or will be allowed to flood.

That already happened once, it was called the 1980s.

Interesting factoid from the WSJ:

3 scenarios may play out:
  • They recognize both are severely undervalued and maintain the operations and then sell them off in a stronger market and pocket the difference.
  • They're creating a new airline (just what the  ordered).
  • They are bat $h!t crazy.

Popcorn, table 1. :D

I'm going for #3.

We are working on it.

We also have an abundance of Chemical Plants, other than just Petroleum Refineries. It's what makes the areas of Pasadena, Baytown, and Texas City smell so lovely.

The center of the Festering Pit used to be a ghost-town in the 80's. No one would be caught dead Downtown after 05:00pm.

That's precisely what I was thinking; imagining DL's thoughts at the moment (NW was a passive equity investor).

Me too.

Regarding the end of the petroleum fueled economy and the destruction of Houston, wind (or solar) won't do it. You don't burn hydrocarbons to create electricity (efficiently). It's not a vs. scenario, developing alternatives is a responsible mix in the energy portfolio.

As long as we have a car culture, we'll have a thriving festering pit.

Mmmm . . . . You should travel to Marrietta, Ohio, sometime, for a little taste of chemical production in the North.

It's not even really petroleum that powers the U.S. it's natural gas and coal. It takes a good chunk of coal to make power.

People praise electric cars and I wonder where they think the electricity comes from...

I just changed my itinerary for next week from DCA-ATL-ICN (overnight) - KUL to DCA-ATL-ICN-KUL all in one shot. That will be 24 hours of flying (in J) plus five hours of layover. There are 2.5 hours between the DL flight to ICN and the KE flight to KUL. I hope it works.
