Knowing CO, I would expect that we will have to deal with both.

The inability to completely research a route before buying a gate is also stupid. Charge me the market research fee up front, before I invest in a gate, and let me see the passenger load information before I rent a gate. That way, if the route is going to totally suck, I'm out a few thousand in one-time market research fees, not a lot of money on the gate plus the market research fee. That's how it would work in the real world anyway.

Fully agreed...I complained about this before.

Hopefully not. CO has been pretty good in that regard in SkyTeam. I hope it continues with Star.

They said no *Net blocking. The mixed carrier/class thing is really the open question. Right now they've got great mixed carrier flexibility in ST; I don't want to see that go away.

HUGE assumption. I'm a bit worried about that, really.

I'm still hoping to get to Asia (MLE, PNG or the like) for some great diving using points and in a big seat. We'll see how well that goes. I'm pretty sure that all redemptions must be in conjunction with Mrs. sbm12 and she has much more limited availability than even the airlines reward calendars do.

Bear in mind, though, that CO has been "aligning" with UA on many policies. I would expect them to align in this manner, as well.

I believe J. confirmed at the DO that something akin to Starnet blocking would NOT be implemented by CO.

Do you think we'll even be able to redeem for F?

I did not realize that they had stated that already - good to know.

I was in that session. There was an emphatic "No" from the OnePass guys, about as much as the Yes for CO Gold = *G.

I give it 50/50 at this point.

I don't know, but I certainly hope so.

Well, if they are not blocking the availability (*Net blocking) then the rewards should be there, right? They aren't on AF or KE because those carriers do not publish them to partners as I understand it. They danced around this a bit in that same session and basically said "we always offer up what our partners show us" so I really do think that they will make them available.

The real questions are:
  • At what rates?
  • Will they continue in their arrogance of asserting that BF is an F product?

My guess is that we'll see J continue where it is today and F at a 30-50% premium. Is it really worth it at that point? I find it hard to believe that it is, though I am certainly lacking in the experience to know first-hand.

I believe there is a very good chance that we will be able to redeem for F. AFAIK, not a single *A carrier without an F cabin bars its FFP members from redeeming F.

On the right carrier, F is well worth the mileage premium. There is simply no comparison between a good F product and a good J product. Despite alleged deficiencies in LH's F seat, I would gladly take LH F over any J product I have flown (which includes NZ J, BF, 772LR J on DL, AF J, et. al.).
