I hope everyone is enjoying the International Day of The Otter. I'll be celebrating with a nice big Belgian Ale after this evening's classes.

The agent at that desk had no clue how to change a full fare F ticket to an earlier flight. The second agent we talked to was very nice and helpful but also had no clue how to change a full fare ticket. Finally, after my friend basically begged another agent to try again, and that agent put us on the ealier flight about 30 minutes before it was schedule to depart. US at PHL is a joke.
For those who don't know, the reason I no longer fly US at all was being charged a $100 "lost ticket" fee to board a flight home. I was on an e-ticket ... US decided to convert my ticket to a paper ticket and mail it to my home ... the paper ticket was issued and mailed to my home two days after I took my outbound flight on US ... |

ALCO, what was the ice cream place in AMS you told me to seek out, and why did you tell me to seek it out?

While it's hard to pin-point my undoing, I think it's somewhere between losing my luggage 17 times in one year (to be fair, UA and LH contributed to that number too), the US1 line being disconnected during a major snow storm, attempting to fly on Shares cut-over day, and involuntary downgrades on a trans-con twice due to dupe seat assignments with no compensation. Actually, I think the real winner was US canceling a flight during the great "PI we don't want to work" summer, labeling the cause of cancellation as weather, finding a crew and then reinstating the flight - but not telling anyone they reinstated it. They then canceled my re accommodation flight the next day because they put me back on the "uncanceled" flight without telling me, and, of course, I didn't show up for it. I then bought a first class ticket to get home (the only seat left) and I got downgraded to Y (a US1 on a paid F ticket!). It took small claims court to settle that one. |

We made it in to Casco Viejo with a few wrong turns and a few right ones. We were laughing a lot about your "don't walk there" warning because we walked from Calle Central back towards the multicentro for about 30 minutes and it was a shady neighborhood (though no shade anywhere - damn it was hot!) but not that bad. Only when we went that little bit further south into the ridiculously sketchy area between the Calle Central and Casco Viejo did we realize what you meant. That was a bit crazy.
We managed to find our way to the area around the cathedral and park right there and wander around for an hour or so. I took a few photos but none of the church. It was nice but not amazing, IMO. You can see how they are desperately trying to bring that district back and get it up and inhabitable for tourists, but they have a lot of work left to do. |

I've seen some crazy areas in the slums around Caracas, Tegucigalpa, Mexico City, and Cape Town, but that little sliver of land sandwiched between the main road, the coast, and the main peninsula of the Casco Viejo is absolutely nuts. It goes from seedy to "Oh my god, get your video camera... and a gun!" in the space of two blocks.
A message in red comes up and says : ZP - Zona Peligrosa |

I think this all supports my contention about US Customer Service.
