True. I viewed it as more of a good-deal fare to a location that isn't generally discounted ex-IAH.

I wouldn't be in any hurry to do nine hours of CO coach to LHR, followed by 7.5 hours of EK coach to DXB. But if you really want to go to DXB from IAH on the cheap, I suppose it is worthwhile.

I wondered the same thing 6 months ago. If the fuel prices stay down it will be profitable. If they spike again it likely won't be. Then again, I watched the woman across the aisle from me on IAH-NRT buy enough junk that they had to find a shopping bag for her to carry it all, so it was definitely profitable on that flight.

I see non-US citizens buying crap from duty free onboard all the time (usually cigarettes and alcohol).

How does one obtain a Vatican citizenship?

College degree, follwed by a master's in divinity, then 4 years at a Seminary, a number of years shuttling between sick people, depressed people, and saying Mass 10 times a week all on a salary of about 5 grand a year, followed by a bunch of years holding meetings, writing stuff, and wearing a funny hat (though you do get to make Mass twice as long), followed by doing all that again in a big city with some international travel in Y to FCO, and then attending a meeting one day with your peers and some white smoke, and you say "You made me what?".

There may be an alternate path from the big city step if it happens to be one of your buddies that says "you made me what?" and you get to be a press secretary or deep thinker or something.

Oh, and you have to be a dude and you can't be into getting laid. They've tightened down that requirement a lot in the last decade.

If I had any three-day-weekends to spare, I'd seriously consider it, if only for the FlightMemory lines and a new destination.

Are you saying you have to be the Pope or a Cardinal?

DXB is not that exciting, but it is worth seeing just for the novelty factor.

Point taken on the ballcap...but I still think I'm right about the golf bag.

There was no UF tags on my bag , I used to have a Gator driver cover , but that was retired.

 to the Gators.

I guess they're really not so bad, though. My colleague, a UF undergrad graduate, likes to drink until he pukes watching the Gators each weekend during football season.

I've heard it's pretty . I also wouldn't mind redeeming for the IAH-DOH flight that QR starts up with at the end of this month. So far, BD has not indicated that U.S.-originating itineraries are bookable on QR with BD miles.

Actually, the population of the Vatican is 800, of whom about 450 are citizens, so there is certainly some support staff. Also, diplomatic emmisaries are citizens, and I'm not sure what level they rise to in the chuch hierarchy, so they probably aren't Cardinals (and many of them may not even be ordained)

You should go with EK J on the 380 from JFK, throw in a one-day stopover in DXB, then continue on to CPT.

So why the  for my same day turn comment?! :p

T-4 hours until I find out if I can do it in EK J.

Everytime I fly US I end up with emotional distress, though I never thought to sue.

Mackieman I just got into SAN and it's an amazing gorgeous day. I need to remind myself to visit the condo more often. :D

And the DEN Airport wireless was sucking today, talk about useless.

Yep, we had some marine layer cloudiness this morning but that has been burned off due to the high pressure ridge moving in. I actually got out of the office for a customer meeting and lunch today, so I could enjoy a bit of it. ^
