I resent the phrase train geek. Those people frighten me to no end.

LOL. You're welcome about the inside joke line. Inside jokes seem to be all the rage since IAH.

And that's were that one started too when he asked about the orgins of the name. I think the response I got was something like 'how lame'

I was asked multiple times if my FT handle was my last name... When I explained it there were only a few people who seemed interested, the rest just gave me a blank stare.

CM, nice comment about how inside that one joke in another forum was.

I am so lost. I clearly missed something. :)

Is the box jumping the shark again?!?!

I think railfan may be the best wikipedia page there is. They've certainly made it a lot more funny since the last time I saw it.
Captions to photos include:
"railfans practicing their hobby at..."
"railfan photographers awaiting a special train in Belgium" (a large crowd with no indication of a train except there are empty tracks in the background)
"...near Vizag, India - a paradise for trainspotters."
"Train spotters at Norwich station...." (a photo that could easily be labeled "passengers waiting for a train" if in a different context)

I'll admit I have somewhat of a rail interest--but almost always its role in the urban context--ie, continuity of roads in Houston, rail trails, and other rail ROW reclamation/use.

Dunkin's fine, but Shipley is so much better.

I like anything that's big and can move, so I definitely like trains too. It's tough to be a railfan in the US - though at least I can tell a EMD loco from a GE one. :D

I still remember seeing (and being pulled by) those steam locos in China in the early 80's.
