There was also the ridiculous call yesterday where the ref called a foul from across the field while the line judge 2 yards away called a clean play. Soccer has a number of calls which places it in the same category as figure skating in my mind (which isn't good).

FIFA can overturn Kaka's Red

GEICO not only takes credit cards online (one used to have to call in) but also now takes AmEx (completely new since January); might this be the high point of my day?

FIFA could conceivably overturn, but it's a second yellow and FIFA being FIFA ...

GEICO's web-programming department needs to soften their language:

Your Next Payment Extraction of: (insert amount)

Question for the Marriott people: fiancee has a Marriott account with about 7K in it. We are getting a group block at a Courtyard for our wedding. We don't use Marriott -- all those points were from work stays from her old job. I am told we can earn airline miles on this group booking. Is CO a smart move given that we are not Marriott people and rapidly distancing ourselves from Hilton?

Because you only get one mile for every dollar spent, versus ten points for every dollar spent, airline miles are a really bad value through Marriott Rewards. If she's got 7,000 points, bank the upcoming stay as points and you'll have enough for a free night at most Fairfield Inns and some Springhill Suites and Courtyard properties. Even if you don't play to stay at Marriott Properties regularly, a free night is a free night, and can often save you a hundred bucks.

Hey.

We've had a few intermittent power outages here on post - don't know if it's the TVA having trouble generating power (hottest day in three years) or some other glitch.

Mackieman has it pretty much correct but make sure to make all the reservations under her name and number telling Marriott the real names of the actual guests who will take the rooms.

Therefore, if you were to have seven people staying for two nights each at $100/night, she would get about 14,000 points and then have enough for a free room night at almost any full service Marriott and more than one at Fairfield and Springhill.

Just back from a work-related lunch. I saw one of the lesser Baldwin brothers on the walk back (not sure which one).
