That's not a bad price at all for that itinerary. Last year ATL-IAH-ABQ cost me well over $550 for a weekend trip. I was going to be there for work, so my ticket was no big deal. We burned DL miles for an award for my partner rather than pay nearly $600 for his ticket.

Its not terrible but considering we have a 3+ hour drive to/from the airport to Roswell its not ideal. Our flight coming home leaves at 8:45 am which means we have to leave ROW around 4:30 am the morning after the wedding. I am considering just using someone elses shower after the wedding then hitting the road. This way I avoid a relatviely expensive hotel room ($129+ for Holiday Inn) on the Saturday night that we would be in for less than 4 hours.

Very pretty Yosemite pictures. :-:^

Thanks!:) The timing of the trip couldn't have been better between all the water and the snow in the high country. Iconic views at every turn. I had fun. And I posted a few (rushed) photos for you in the airline seat thread.:D

Yawn, I need a vacation. All that time in EWR on Saturday dragging luggage around (and loosing car keys) really tells me I need to fly somewhere and escape.

I have zero escape trips booked - right now my only itineraries are for a cousin's wedding (July in Maryland is ) and to convene a panel at a conference in SJC. Undecided as to whether I'll drive to do a presentation in MSN (and make side trips) or fly - state will reimburse me for mileage at the cost of the cheapest airfare, which is over $300.

South Florida with its lack of freeze/thaw cycle has some good roads as well.

not to be found in south florida I know :D

I have almost fallen into a huge hole in the road where the metal plate was not secured properly. I actually called 911 to report it as emergency and a police car was there within 2 min to block it off. (this was on W flagler St)

Exactly. I've come to view my lack of work-sponsored travel as a blessing. Where I end up on the weekends is up to me, and I spend the weekdays doing what everyone else already does... working. It's just that I don't equate travel with work. I equate travel with fun.

Also, having done 186K BIS two years ago, 231K BIS last year, and 147K BIS so far this year, it's not as if I haven't sampled what could be considered burnout-inducing levels of flying. When it's for leisure, it's a whole different ball-game.

Granted, those who travel for work will have a large chunk of their FF miles subsidized by their employer, but what good are the miles if you dread having to spend anymore time away from home?

Live in a crappy, festering pit, take a job that never sends you anywhere, and put the joy of travel back into your life. :D

Oh, I still equate travel with fun when it comes time for a vacation. And, unlike many of my coworkers, I gladly go fun places when I've got time off. I don't long to take a week or two off work and sit at home.

Flying may be totally routine for me most of the time now, but I still get very excited if we're crossing an ocean in the front cabin of the plane on a vacation. And I feel like I've got a pretty good deal going now. Sure, DC is just as festering as Houston is this time of year, but crappy Pit it ain't. I'm loving being there on the weekends now. And, with work still keeping me on the road, I'm still racking up the miles to use for personal trips. Our personal budget situation is just a temporary problem that will go away. And when it does, I anticipate some major redemption of those miles and hotel points.

Ouch. Hope you manage to get the condo let soon.

Thanks. I hope so too. We had someone who wanted it around July 1 but I don't know what the current status on that is. It's a friend of a friend of my partner's, and he's working on finding out the situation. Hopefully she has the job that would move her to Atlanta and into our place. Then it's just a matter of having it cleaned for her arrival, running background checks and getting a lease put together. Fortunately we've got a good friend in Atlanta who is a real estate agent who has volunteered to help out. Then, I can become a landlord, start collecting a check from her every month, and cut my monthly expenses associated with that place to just $250/month. That's very manageable.

And those expenses would probably be offset by the equity the tenant builds on your behalf. Hope that all works out quickly.

I strongly suspect my annual BIS totals would be drastically lower if I lived somewhere like AUS, PDX, DCA, EDI, SZG, ZQN, etc.

How much did you end up saving? If it's well more than your perceived value of the FF miles available via promotions, you're in the clear.

I was able to get a full-size for $17/day before taxes/fees. Looks like I saved about $86 w/ taxes and fees a/i. My total price is $117.53.

Saving more than 40% off $200+ will get you absolution from teh Box.

Good work. My Friday stay has not yet posted. Saturday's posted incorrectly, but I got it fixed.

Yep, hopefully. Although we'll need a recovery in the real estate market before that happens. We're hoping to be at a break-even point 12 months from now, but we'll see what happens. I'm not overly optimistic.

Running across that promo last week by chance is making me recognize the strong need to closely look at airline / Amtrak promos on the forum.

Just received my electric bill. Last month, $75. This month, $160. It's just the beginning.
