Because the only hotel offering the Starhot rate on October 31st in the NYC area is in Newark. There is an EWR airport to JFK airport shuttle for $30 per person that more than covers the difference in cost for me and the wife. If we stay at JFK, it will cost us over $200 for the hotel alone. If we stay in Newark and take the shuttle the next day, it will cost $109 for the hotel and the shuttle.
Personally, I'd save the hundreds of dollars on airfare and deal with the fact that the hotel is $100 more than I wanted, coming out ahead at the end of the day, but I suppose that's a personal choice. And I certainly wouldn't project out that others will be looking for the same. |
3:42 PM United (UAUA +6.6%) and Continental (CAL +2.7%) have moved closer to solving differences in valuing their merger, paving the way for a deal as early as next week, sources say. Continental convened a board meeting today and planned a second for Friday to discuss the potential merger. :(

:D I haven't booked the flights yet but I'll let you know when I do. Although if history is any indicator, CO might ship me via pet-safe on this itinerary. Quick random story -- I was flying back from FRA in BF a year or two ago and had just wrapped up a big project. I had gone out the night before with colleagues and, as Germans tend to do, got absolutely blitzkrieged. The lead FA happened to be my FA on the same flight a couple weeks earlier and remembered me. He noted that I looked a little green and asked if I'd like a pre-departure bev. I asked for a water and he gave me the whole big bottle. :-: Sometime during the flight, as I was passed out, he set a little mini-cooler next to me and hung a sign on it that said "replacement liver." :o:rolleyes: |
