Sure, but if the home server went TU then you'd have to restore the media files from remote, which would annoy me. I'm just being pedantic and would want a single local backup and then that replicated remotely.

I am not sure I see your point here. If the local server went out, you still have it backed up, if a local usb HD used for backups/media went out you still have to do the same. You can pick and chose what you want and how you want it, if you want it as single sync with all backups and media it works that way too.

I am in the market for a backpack for my laptop and day carryons as well.

That is such a coincidence. My Northface Overhaul 30 arrived about 1/2 hour ago. But I was looking for something with a large pocket to hold clothing on a weekend trip + laptop. Laptop pocket is in main compartment but has a separate zipper to access. I really like it and not too bulky. It comes in a larger 40 version too.

Does the Overhaul feel bulky?

The Cornice is nice in that it has the separate compartment for the laptop but it sits a little lower on the back and is longer, so it hits my butt a little.

I agree with you Steph3n, mesh can be annoying, but it's hardly noticeable in the Borealis.

The way I read what your saying is that you use the home server to back up your other computers on its disks, in addition to other stuff. That 'other stuff' is only backed up remotely. If a drive died (assuming that it's not a mirrored raid or something), then the 'other stuff' would need to be remotely restored. Not an issue or a problem, for sure, but something I don't find aesthetically pleasing.

hrm, the cornice there, the fact that it sat lower on the back was a ^ to me. I think I'd much prefer that to normal backpack style.

So while it may be :td: to you, looks food to me, and give some points for it on my scale of what to purchase. I will see if I can't find it as a store tomorrow and test it out.

CrashPlan can handle that. I have a networked USB drive here at home, and a USB drive attached to my work computer, both are backed up automatically by CrashPlan.

If the drive at home goes out, I have the work drive and vice versa.

Yeah, that was one thing I did like about it, it felt more like a normal backpack.

I doubt you'll be able to find the Cornice at a store, I think it is on the chopping block by North Face. I went to two REIs and a Whole Earth Provision Company and none of them had it, but they did have the Borealis.

:) ah gotcha, but I don't use it that way, I carry the media with me most of the time and it is in the backup of my laptop and only use it with a windows media connector from the home server.

It also does itunes playlist syncing and the like, which I do not utilize.
