I need to grab at least a UV Filter (if not a circular polarizer, as well) before I take the new lens out for a spin. I'm paranoid to shoot without one. Good to hear it does a solid job. ^

This set from Yankee Spring Training has an assortment of pictures taken with the 55-250 lens. Most of them have been cropped, but it should give you a decent idea of what the lens can do. Of course, I'm far from a pro (and so is the lens) so there will be plenty of mistakes in these shots as well. :)

I should probably invest in a filter or two one of these days...

Those are nice photos! Brett Tomko on the mound, mid-throw is a great capture.

I have enough scratches on my UV Filter (the one I use most often), that I just won't take any chances. I'd rather replace a $10 filter than a $250+ lens.

Agency decided to implement poorly thought out travel rules. Included in these rules are "no rental cars". I've already asked should I cancel my $40 rental car and minimal amount of fuel in OMA to instead pay $140 on taxis (event is outside the city).

I just received an EF-S 55-250 f/4-5.6 IS lens for National Otter Day. Haven't yet tried it out, but am curious to start shooting with some proper zoom capability. The 17-40 is great for landscapes and architecture, but I was really wanting more zoom in Australia when there were wallabies about.

Can definitely tell a difference in construction quality between the 17-40L and the 55-250. The L-Series lenses are housed in sturdy metal, and feel completely solid. The new EF-S looks and feels light and plasticky. However, the reviews of the lens indicate that it is solidly built, despite the plastic housing, and that one of the only noticeable drawbacks is vignetting when wide open.

That's insane.

Yeah, I just need to spend a bit of time familiarizing myself with various performance specs, etc.

UV Filter is not that costly, but a great asset!

I think I found CO's source for the PClub magazine stash!

http://www.mygazines.net/

I can only hope that we'll see some of these titles in a PClub in the coming months:

Potato Grower
Outdoor Power Equipment
National Petroleum News
Professional Candy Buyer

Of course I tossed my list of Canon's out list night. Sadly I'm more than likely going the Panasonic Lumix route for my next camera as they have the camera I want.
