I drove down there from San Juan for a day trip. Nice historic center, good restaurants, and the Hilton there made for a good place to enjoy the sun afterwards (just pretended to be checking in and went straight to their beach :D).

Nice mail day - got a reimbursement check which was almost all mileage, a BP gift card (MyPoints), and a Wal-Mart gift card from Wal-Mart. No minimum purchase on the latter, so that'll be an exercise in spending just about exactly the gift card amount ...

E70, I think. Or E90. Was on E45 from EWR-MKE. They also have E35s and Q4s.

I've stayed at the Sherton Rio. Nothing to rave about but the price was right. Most airline crews stay there. There is a bus stop (none of them are marked) just outside the hotel that makes it easy and cheap to get to the 'real' beaches.

I actually prefer the Sol Ipanema (Best Western) due to it's central location in front of the beach in Ipanema.

The Christ statue is currently being worked on. Don't know how long that's going to take.

Whoa. Aerogal ain't cheap. There goes that idea. Need to find a cheap way into S. America for X-Mas (yeah, right). If I can get to BOG/UIO/GYE/LIM/etc., can haz any of those -LIM-SCL-IPC (and back) for 40K roundtrip apiece in J. :-:

Very true but the nearest one is more than an hour from my home (hence pairing with Costco).
