I don't know if she has tried to lose weight. I know she now has the $$ to hire the people to help her lose it. I'll happily cheer her on if she wants to lose the weight.

I have a good friend who was severely obese. He lost the weight. He made the effort to change his diet. He started walking, before he started running. I am inspired by that!

What I see is someone who is happy with their weight. Does she have a future in Hollywood? I don't think so. Not with that weight. What I do see is a future that likely consists of diabetes, osteoarthritis, stroke, heart attack, high blood pressure and a huge increase in medical problems. Not a message I want to send to my daughter.

Anyone here been to Rio and/or stayed at the Sheraton Barra? Just curious whether it is too far from Sugarloaf Mountain (about the only sight I want to see in Rio) to make such a side-trip possible. The only other SPG option is teh Sheraton Rio, which gets :rolleyes: reviews.

Alright...Long story short we missed our flight from ATL-EWR last weekend (Easter) because my wife was too scared to ask someone what time it was so she just looked at one of the multiple clocks and assumed we were in Central time.....because we came from Houston:confused: Normally I would have let it slide because I should have known better than to rely on her for timing but we had our dog with us and all flights were over booked. Luckily we got on a standby flight to LGA that put us in around 9:30, rented a car, and made it home by 11. I then had to schlep out to EWR to return the car the next day and pick up our bag because she didnt know where to go. She was on her spring break and I've basically worked 10+ hour days for the past month. Not a happy camper here.

It's a nice hotel and that is where the BA crews stay.

It's a bit out of the way, but it's right in front of the beach and the area was nice. It's where we stayed last year. A cab ride to Sugarloaf would likely be about 30 mins.

A is pretty small, but I can be nice for a quick bath and lunch.

I have stayed there. It is not prohibitively far at all from any of the Rio sites or Rio's main neighborhoods. IIRC, it is about 20 minutes from Ipanema/Leblon. And, when you have a taxi driver doing 160 km/hr in the tunnel highways linking Copacabana to Ipanema and out to Barra da Tijuca like fozz, :rolleyes:olov and I did, it takes even less time. I would definitely stay there instead of the Sheraton Rio, unless you want to be able to walk to Leblon. The Sheraton Rio is positioned under the Vidigal favela, so the property is infested with wild cats. I stayed there once and enjoyed it (it also has a quasi-private beach), but I probably would not stay there again now that I have some knowledge of the city. Sheraton Barra is located in an upscale suburb in which you can walk and go to the beach safely, but you will need to take a taxi any time you need to go to Rio proper. Taxis are not very expensive. If you find a driver you like once you get there, ask for his card and call him anytime you need a ride.

If you decide to stay in Copacabana, the Sofitel is a very nice property. That's where we had the cocktail made with Red Bull, absinthe, vodka, and some other crap.
