I have stayed there. It is not prohibitively far at all from any of the Rio sites or Rio's main neighborhoods. IIRC, it is about 20 minutes from Ipanema/Leblon. And, when you have a taxi driver doing 160 km/hr in the tunnel highways linking Copacabana to Ipanema and out to Barra da Tijuca like fozz, :rolleyes:olov and I did, it takes even less time. I would definitely stay there instead of the Sheraton Rio, unless you want to be able to walk to Leblon. The Sheraton Rio is positioned under the Vidigal favela, so the property is infested with wild cats. I stayed there once and enjoyed it (it also has a quasi-private beach), but I probably would not stay there again now that I have some knowledge of the city. Sheraton Barra is located in an upscale suburb in which you can walk and go to the beach safely, but you will need to take a taxi any time you need to go to Rio proper. Taxis are not very expensive. If you find a driver you like once you get there, ask for his card and call him anytime you need a ride.
If you decide to stay in Copacabana, the Sofitel is a very nice property. That's where we had the cocktail made with Red Bull, absinthe, vodka, and some other crap. |

FCL B will take you to non schengen gates that are not nearby like A or C.
So, if I arrive at 6:00 am, plan to spend part of the day in FRA, but want to use one of the FCLs before I go into the city, I should go into A Schengen because I will beat the lines to clear into Schengen after the US flights start arriving, then I can just leave the FCL and go landside without clearing any more immigration or security, correct (unless I arrive at a remote stand or C and get picked up and driven to FCL B)? |

I have a good friend who was severely obese. He lost the weight. He made the effort to change his diet. He started walking, before he started running. I am inspired by that!

What I see is someone who is happy with their weight. Does she have a future in Hollywood? I don't think so. Not with that weight. What I do see is a future that likely consists of diabetes, osteoarthritis, stroke, heart attack, high blood pressure and a huge increase in medical problems. Not a message I want to send to my daughter.
I agree wholeheartedly with you about not wanting to send a message that fat is OK. It certainly isn't, from a health perspective. But, sadly, most people don't look at obesity from a health perspective, they look at it from an aesthetic perspective and send the message that "fat is not attractive", not the message "fat is not healthy". Believe me, I am not condoning her weight. I am just thinking about the subtle psychological messages we send young people these days, and want young girls (and boys, for that matter) to have positive self-esteem and beauty based on a healthy weight, not a "Hollywood" version of "health and beauty", and for those who do struggle with their weight, it is often a heavy burden that they have to carry in terms of feeling accepted and valued by a society that places more emphasis on physical attributes/aesthetics than on the holistic human being. And so, to see something like "she's disgusting", just stuck a nerve, that's all. I'm not meaning to be horrid to you, really. :) |
Gotta love UA.
I got a call from Hal telling me my 6am LGA-ORD got canceled tomorrow. I call the 1k desk and get rebooked on EWR-ORD and my upgrade. Total time from first call to reticketing? 3 minutes. |
A Costco offering for those individuals even more paranoid than me.

ALCO, I also would recommend hiring a taxi or car service driver for the day to take you to the major sites that you want to see. You can easily do Corcovado, Sugarloaf, and the botanical gardens in a day, plus more if you get an early start. Depending on when you go, the lines to buy tickets for the Sugarloaf cable cars can be a bit long, so plan accordingly. If you take an organized bus tour or hire a private tour guide, they will have tickets in advance, so you skip the line. I have taken bus tours and hired private guides. Both are good, but the bus tours waste a lot of time stopping at various hotels to pick up and drop off.
That said, you do not really need a guide to go to the main Rio sites. A taxi/car service driver who waits for you at the various sites will suffice. |

It's a nice hotel and that is where the BA crews stay.
It's a bit out of the way, but it's right in front of the beach and the area was nice. It's where we stayed last year. A cab ride to Sugarloaf would likely be about 30 mins. Wait, i've been to a Southern Hemisphere destination you haven't??!?!

It is on the opposite side of Rio but not more that 30-45 minutes like Fozz said.
You can do the Pao and Corcovado in one day. |

If you come in to an outside position they drive you to B Schengen VIP drop off and you would have to go to second floor where the FCL B is located B22. Unless you are HON and now they take you to FCT apparently to clear immigration there.
In any case, I think I'll just hit both B and A before going into the city. I want to inspect them and collect ducks. Ideally, I would arrive into a remote area and get driven over to B, go to the B lounge, then clear into Schengen and check out the A lounge. Will be using the FCT later for my connection, so I don't want to bother going into the regular terminal at all on that portion. |
