US 4th circuit tells father of dead marine that he has to pay $16,000.00 in legal fees to the conservative protest group that picketed his dead son's funeral with signs that stated that his son was dead because god hates homosexuals.

I was listening to that story yesterday, absolutely insane. I mean, I'm no law expert so if the law comes down on Fred Phelps' side for some inexplicable reason, so be it, but don't saddle the dad with the court costs because Fred Phelps is a doucheteroid maximus.

I didn't mention earlier my principle, interest, tax, insurance, and earthquake insurance combined were barely more than the monthly association fee - that's why I was looking for the golf course, pool, nightly wine receptions, etc.

As someone from the Northeast that plans to relocate somewhere next year you guys are really giving me a lot to think about. I don't think there are many places more expensive than where I live.

I'm surprised that there isn't a thread in OMNI about this.
Not wanting to go there at the moment, I will say that Mike Barnicle on MSNBC's Morning Joe had (what I consider to be) a good comment about this story: It truly makes someone test the boundaries of what they believe the First Amendment should protect.

Yeah, that system sucks. My partner has to use it to do his expense reports.

Advice from the esteemed gallery - what are the places to eat near Hilton MSY Riverside / Convention Center. No M&S, so I'm confused. If there are no recommendations, I'll end up on RewardsNetwork.

Sorry to hear that, but at least you've got a job to go into right away.

My thought would be "how to leverage skill to get paid to travel". One of our Box colleagues has contacts with cruise lines and I get a couple speaking gigs a year. In this case, we could have the Box personal chef - will cook for airfare and a room in exotic destinations. :D

Colpuck's law #1
One should have to cover one's own costs when committing flagrant .........gery even if legal.

Moscow? Tokyo? Zurich? That doesn't help much. For me, I was able to find good opportunity in TN. I have friends in biotech who admittedly wouldn't be able to find opportunities in TN, even with Vandy.

There are a lot of good options out there - the implications to an economist of who picks airline cards versus cash back cards, mileage malls versus cashback sites is really interesting.

Indeed it could be some pretty cool research on incentivization.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Find someone with nothing to lose. Pay them handsomely. Provide them with a rifle and a plan.

Wouldn't be law 1 if I were developing a legal system but would fall under the provisions of the "quit being a moron" section.

Covering one's own costs in cases of rampant stupidity is something that is common sense that it would never happen in this country. I'd like to see boaters get charged for the costs of Coast Guard rescue if negligence can be proven.

I'm doing a complete career change and relo. I have a BS in Marketing and experience in all kinds of unrelated things. So I want a nice home base that allows my descretionary spending to go heavily towards travel. That might required some flexible work arrangements though.
