Oh, I was thinking that this was in April. I on HNL for that date.

Yes. ALCO takes it to a whole new level.

I can also understand MR'ing for people that travel a fair amount for work/personal reasons and want to top off their elite status or mileage balances. But to spend $2,000 on something that costs $2,000... I'd rather keep my assets liquid a currency that I know has actual value and keep my weekends free.

But that's just me. Again, I really should shut up now or I might find myself banned from this site.

I just fly for work for the most part.

However MR PTY to MEX was nice for a southernmost trip. I bought it just for that.

Sorry. My views on things like MR's are rather different than everyone else's in here. I'll keep my  shut. :o

I see your counterpoint, but certain things need to be considered in my case. I do zero travel for work and I prefer not to pay for positioning flights. If I can get 100k RDM for in the neighborhood of 2c each and make another few thou off of shopping, that means that even if she doesn't lift a finger to earn a mile, we can go somewhere in the pointy end every other year. That's not awful, especially when her parents drilled into her for no apparent reason that she would only get to Europe once in her life...I'm still scratching my head over that one, mostly because her parents have never crossed an ocean themselves.

Me too. I did a trip to OGG last summer on miles, simply because I couldn't stomach another year of  Euro exchange rates.

The trip this summer, had I booked it outright, priced out at 17,000 / ticket. :-:

yeah, very little damage and we got the plate of the person who did it.

Good - if there's some paint transfer the police will be able to take care of this easily.

Or just buy tickets up-front for the same cost you're spending on all the MR's every other year. Then, every 5th year or so you'll have enough points for a free trip.

... it'll be cheaper that way.

Good Morning Box.

Cold has knocked me for a loop. Totally tired and I just want to crawl back to bed but I have to do the school run and then the dog park. I plan on spending the rest of the day sleeping, I hope.

Feeling any better this afternoon?

Hola, Box.

5 hours of meetings today. I think my behind has gone flat.

Again, totally subjective. I do not see myself ever buying a front cabin fare to cross an ocean unless it is a mistake, at least not for couples travel. She is far too cheap (she calls herself frugal, I call her cheap...every f-ing thing she talks about, she always mentions the price first and whether or not she feels it is cheap) to buy up front because she would rather spend that money on fun at the destination. On that point I agree with her...the bulk of the trip is not in the air, so the bulk of the money should not be allocated there. Where I have a problem is her skewed notion of what the ROI should/can be because she is a novice traveler. My attempts to tell her that taking the time to earn the miles is cheaper than paying cash for said ticket are starting to get thru to her, but she was once vehemently against it.

Interesting that our planning seems to cause us to (almost) run into each other like this. We are going to the Kokua Festival on Friday the 23rd (Jack Johnson, Ziggy Marley, etc.).

I've had some $10k+ routings if one were to purchase said ticket with cash. Just happened to be itineraries I could live with and were available with miles.

Remind her the frugal icurhere2 gets to travel the world in pretty good style and has an average monthly budget of not much more than $2,000.

I am leaning towards 16 April. Thinking about EWR-ORD-LAX-HNL-IAH-EWR or something like that. Need to play around with CO.com to see what I can get and for how much. Client will pay for a refundable-Y fare EWR-ORD, so I have a good chunk of change to play with.

I will be in Chicago 15-18 April
