YIKES!! Sorry to hear that. Even reading the explanation (which seems reasonable) it still sucks. Cheese steaks are on me tomorrow; it is the least I can do. ;)

<bows> - thank you, sir. I wasn't about to cancel on you - if I don't keep myself busy I'll go nucking futs. Tomorrow's got you on the schedule early and I still have to MC a charity raffle in my mother's absence at night.

Are you guys meeting up tomorrow?

Yeah, Mr. sbm12 has not yet experienced the intestinal glories that an authentic Philly cheesesteak can bring, and we figured since he'll be doing almost nothing but flying for the following 60 or so hours after I introduce him to Mr. Tony Luke, we might get an audacious and unmitigated story out of it. I'm picking him up from 30th Street, we're lunching, and then I'm dropping him off at PHL for his positioner to SNA. Then it's off to raffle-land for me, as I have to get to the venue early and get a bunch of stuff set up. I do have half a ticket in the raffle, so I have 300:1 odds of walking out of there tomorrow night with $5k.

Good evening, Box. I had to move my Friday IAH-AUS runs to Monday. Boy I tell you, it's a PITA changing a reservation on co.com when it's a specific fare class (H). I had to cancel the old ones, and somehow in the process ended up with a credit instead of a refund. So I had to call the desk and get one itinerary revived. Funny thing is, though, it was an upgraded itinerary, and now one of the legs shows me in First Class when I go to change the seats. Guess I'll be making another call tomorrow! :D

Having experienced a layoff, I know what you are going through. The first thing I did was what you did, make a phone call... then another... then another... I went into full networking mode. Eventually, a job was found. I wish you luck in your search. I am in my search mode now. I may have something soon. Fingers crossed for you and I.

Indeed. Best of luck and many congratulations to you as well. ^ :D

I didn't even go home after I got the news. I closed out what I had to at the job site, and then went to see an old boss that I'm still friends with if for nothing else just to vent. On the way home I made several calls, and I put a banner message on LinkedIn. I filled out one application and started a second. The aloft in PHL that a few Boxers had stayed at is looking, and so are a few other area properties that would be a long drive from where I am but manageable if I based myself at the fiancee's house every other day or so. I won't out anyone - (they know who they are and have been thanked appropriately) - a fellow FTer has already reached out as well. The act of the layoff itself came too late in the day to get into any same-day networking...that's what part of tomorrow and all of Monday (and beyond) is for.

Good for you! That's a can-do attitude, I'll tell you what. I've been layed off before as well, and it was cause for a liquid lunch and a taxi ride home. :D

Thanks again to all for good wishes. I'm out...fiancee's machine has updates to install and it's time to do something about my pounding head.

I'm sure you'll come out ahead. I'm three weeks into a new job and though I made the change voluntarily, it's always a challenge.

As the person flying with him, I really hope there are no audacious and unmitigated stories! :)

Sorry to hear that Concierge Mike. I went through a layoff four years ago and it's rough. Good luck, and hopefully you'll find something quickly.

In other news, my other half somehow lost his car keys in Vegas this week. He arrived back at ATL this evening with no key to his car, and no way to get to the house key that's locked in his car. He had to take MARTA home, and get the next door neighbor to let him in. Unfortunately this was the only key we had to his car (another one was lost by his sister on a vacation) and the extra key to my car was on the key ring that was lost. So tomorrow I fly home and we have to deal with getting this problem resolved.

If you go to a dealer which is the only way to get a new key at this point I believe. You will need the registration information for the car. The process takes about an hour or so depending on the dealership. At least that is what i experienced after my SEA trip.

CM sorry to hear about the job. I would suggest a move to Las Vegas but you would only make it in time for the next round there. Best of luck to you!

fozz Nov 7, 2008 6:01 am

Yeah, Vegas is bad. I was there last week and was surprised as to how light it was.

COFlyerCLE Nov 7, 2008 6:07 am

CM - sorry to hear about the job situation. It's always rough to go through.

I expect the same call almost every day. In the meantime - plenty of networking going on.

On the bright side, you still have the box...
