New upgrade policy for skyteam

November 13, 2008 – SkyTeam, the global airline alliance, today announced the launch of the SkyTeam Mileage Upgrades program. SkyTeam Frequent Flyers on international flight itineraries can now use their miles to upgrade to Business class on most SkyTeam member airlines.

“The ability to earn and redeem miles has always been a key passenger benefit of alliances,” said Leo van Wijk, SkyTeam chairman. “With the launch of SkyTeam Mileage Upgrades, we are responding to passenger requests as we look to continuously expand upon the benefits we offer our customers.”

To take advantage of SkyTeam Mileage Upgrades, passengers must:

Purchase an international, published, full fare Economy class reservation on one of the 10 participating SkyTeam member airlines. The flight must be marketed and operated by the same SkyTeam carrier, as code-share flights are not permitted.
Call the award reservation line of their frequent flyer program at least three days in advance of departure to verify eligibility, check account balance and confirm if upgrade seats are available. At the current time, all requests must be made via telephone. The number of miles necessary for an upgrade varies based on the frequent flyer program to be debited and the itinerary. Passengers should visit their frequent flyer program Web site and consult the individual award charts for approximations.
If the passenger is eligible, has the necessary miles in their account and upgrade seats are available, the award reservation agents will debit their frequent flyer account and reissue the tickets with the upgrade confirmed.

I was just thinking that the CO FAQ should be updated with the ship numbers that have power.

I think that there are too many to track. I added a note that there are some out there and that they can be checked using the PDA site or the recently updated www site.

I've added this information to the partner upgrade post.

I also upgraded the fleet plan post to show the details of the 772 deferral and the 733/735 retirement acceleration.

The link for "What is 'Chairman’s Circle' Status?" sends you to "Are they're any invitation only / unpublished levels within OnePass?"

That should be correct, because last I looked there is a line in there about Chairman's Circle and what it is.

Stupid question that maybe has already been answered and/or maybe this is the wrong thread for it -

Is there a way, when checking in via a mobile device, and getting the BP delivered to the mobile device to get auto check-in for the return? I'm pretty sure there's a way to request it if you don't select having the BP sent to your device.

If not, I'd love to see this feature added. @:-)

I think I missed an EUA this morning because I forgot to check-in, in advance.

And the data is horribly out of date. But other than that. ;)

I'll clean it up.

Could we add the info in this post about accounts for people who have passed away and how to transfer said miles?

Additionally, from speaking to the OPSC, when you call, make sure you have the OP number of the deceased and the person receiving the transfer.

It is much better now. Let me know if there are any other errors.

Can credit from cancelled international ticket be used to buy domestic ticket?

The FAQ about cancelled ticket ETV or ETC does not address whether it works the same for both domestic and international tickets.

Could someone clarify whether credit from cancelled international ticket can be used to buy domestic ticket of LESSER value, or must only be used to buy a HIGHER value, or only be used to buy international ticket?

bmw303 Jan 19, 2009 9:14 pm

a credit can be used to buy a lower value ticket. any remaining amount stays with your credit i believe.

I know the credit from DOMESTIC ticket works the way you said. I have been using a ETC from a high value domestic ticket cancellation.

However I do not know if this works for ETC resulted from international ticket cancellation.

From a search I did on this forum, someone posted as late as end of 2007 that the ETC resulted from a cancelled international ticket if used to buy domestic ticket, can only be used for equal or higher value than the credit.

I cannot find any info by doing a search on CO website!

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

One of the 772 posts has a bad UBB code piece - but in true helpful style I forget which one...will look in the morning.
