When the FA was rude, hy didn't you just say "Yes, Ma'am" and sit down. Tell the Captain what happened when you get off.

My favourite was on US AIRWAYS. They showed FOX NEWS and the FA *never* passed out headphones. Getting off, I said "Captain! Thanks for the headphones!"

On AA, if I get bad service, I just zip it and wait for my higher paid CX reservations. That gets them in the pocket.

Was on a flight from EWR-DCA. A passenger and stewardess got into a little snit because the passenger was confused about something. Attendant came up front and asked Red Coat if she might be able to get the passenger removed because she "had an attitude". Sounds like if they don't like the way you look they can inconvenience you no questions asked.

Actually the its the freaking gate agents fault for allowing a drunk passenger on the aircraft. Gate agents are trained to look out for clues. So its just not aircraft staff but it all starts with the gate agent.

The Pilots are not their to monitor the inflight service, nor could they care less if you got your headphones. It's true the Captain has the final say about who flies on board his airplane but the F/A's also have a say and the Pilots will back them up in almost any case, if they are worth their weight in salt that is. If the F/A's make a bad call and throws someone off the plane for the wrong reason they are the ones that will have to answer for it. The Captain merely needs to say that he/she was supporting his flight crew, which is what management expects of them.

Actually, I'm in the camp that this is a great thread, and it reminds me that I gotta get back to reading FT regularly. I particularly enjoyed NJDavid's #3 argument.

I find many of the attacks on ryan here to be overdone and unwarranted. Many FTers are known to enjoy a drink or five. Ryan admitted his to drinking and realized he should've kept his mouth shut.

But he also did not deserve to be kicked off the plane without explanation, and the captain should have been willing to stand by his action and give ryan his name. (What ryan should've done is walked back to the gate and gotten the captain's name from the gate agent.)

If ryan is under 21, then, yes, he shouldn't have been drinking, but the PC definitely shouldn't have served him. Also interesting to me is that in the gambling thread reference in this one, numerous posters were encouraging an FTer to use a fake ID to gamble, yet it seems every in this thread is aghast that a minor would attempt to drink!

Anyway, someone said that, judging by his misadventures, ryan seems to be something of a dumbass. I say more power to him and to FT. We get plenty of a-holes around here (self-important or otherwise), but not many dumbasses with good stories to tell.

I have this really wild tale. You will not believe it!!
I bought a ticket for a transpac to PVG. When they called for elite boarding, I got on. I did not get an upgrade, but said nothing. I found my seat and buckled my seatbelt. I ordered the pasta with a diet coke. I said thank you. I slept. I had noodles. For landing, I stowed my seat tray and raised my seat to the full upright position. I said my b'byes to the pilot and cabin crew.

Short story: I arrived at my destination.

There are places that you are allowed to be drunk, but an airport or airplanes are always on the nono list. Ryan can make his own personal choices about when, where and at what age he chooses to consume alcohol. With that choice comes the responsibility for the outcomes of those choices.

It is not the PC's fault; it is not the FA's fault, it is not the captain's fault, it is not granpa Ryan's fault for giving him a sip of Olympia when he was 8.

It is amazing how one's past deeds come back in your face in this place. I should search my posts, but I think I'm clean.

Sorry Ryan, but I am with the group of people that think that you should have just sat down. Unfortunately you need to know when and with whom to fight your battles.
The FA probably smelled some of the acohol and thought you would be trouble. I do believe that you were probably not going to be trouble, but now a days, that is the reality in which we live.
And going to the cockpit probably didn't help.
I would say take this one and let it be a lesson. Count yourself lucky that you didn't end up in jail, or with your bones broken, Continental has been known for it in the past.

I honestly can't recall a time when I've had this much fun and this many laughs reading an FT thread!

Even though it's clear that many of us FTers are, how do I say this...perhaps a bit outside the bell curve...no one can say that we don't cover some very interesting and thought provoking analysis of Life on the road! Thanks, everyone!
