Kicked off plane by captain

A week or so I was on an EWR SFO flight in FC. I missed the flight, and went back to the PC well that night I got a little drunk with some girl I met at the bar. When I was called to board I got on the 757 to see three or so open FC seats, so I asked FA and she gave me a rude go sit down now I don't deal with seating. And I told her that her attitude was rude and uncalled for. (I am a friendly drunk, so nothing else was said) Well I sit down and the GA asks me to get off the plane because the captain doesn't want me flying So I get off and approach the cockpit, and ask for his name, he laughs at me and says get off my plane or we will call security. Anyway I was stuck over night in EWR never got an FC seat or nothing. What is up and is there anything I can do? This captain never even saw or smelled me yet he kicked me off his plane. I was not S Faced where I remember nothing, I remember everything how it went, an dI did not act out of line.

With very few exceptions, a captain can have anyone removed from the plane that he/she desires. There are limits to their power but if you take it further they will likely just say that you were being "abusive" or that you were drunk and that will be the end of it. While you are obviously frustrated, I would probably just let it go. . .

I saw the same thing recently on a CO flight SFO-IAH . The captain didn't like the attitude of one of the passengers and he was taken off. After takeoff the captain said" Nowadays you have to be real nice to fly". Post 9/11 it is best to just shut up, smile and sit down.

Just let it go....

In these circumstances, the captain has the right to remove anyone from their aircraft that they think would be a potential hazard to their crew and passengers.

Even though the captain didn't see what happened between you and the flight attendant, the most likely reason for you being kicked off is that the flight attendant asked the captain to have you removed....

(When I worked for UA, I did this once with a passenger who threatened to hit me.....so...I just told the captain that this passenger threatened to hit me and the captain asked if I wanted that passenger off...I said yes...and he then gave me the authorization to do so since he will not fly with that passenger on board per my request.)

Sign of the times Ryan. I guess you have to fly United (the friendly skies).

Yes I am with UAL again, and just hoping. This was a sad night though. Especially givenn that the airline just ditched me at EWR overnight. I do not plan to presue this as I know how CO is, but they just lost a customer. I understand that my "smelling of alcohol" or whatever caused this, but that FA and captain was out of line. All he had to do was answer my question of what is you name... I am tired of 737 transcons, and jerk employees anyway.

Well off to HKG etc Gotta catch up to 1K again.

Ciao

Rest assured, your specific circumstances aside, that CO is not loooosing ( http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ) any sleep over the fact that they just lost another customer. Their leadership seems to believe that there are always more customers, so they feel free to p-off the existing ones whenever they want.

In about a month or two, CO's customer base will be 14 guys that still like overpaying for meidocre service and bad atitudes, and 7 apologists.

Best thing you can do here is fly someone else.

What else should they have done? Did you expect them to put you up for the night? I suppose tbey could have called the police who would probably have put you up for the night (and maybe for the next one as well), and filled out some papers with the words "public intoxication" in various places. Is that what you wanted?

I am somewhat confused about this. You go in drunk and you are upset that they were not nice to you!
Do you think that you are actually recalling the events as they happened? Most drunk tend to speak louder than they tink they do and tend to behave in a rude manner.
You are lucky they did not call security.

glad you came to your senses and got off the plane.. its better to reticket than to spend a night in Newark Jail ...think of the lawyer fees you saved by being a smart drunk ...you gotta know your limits and realize theses peoples day to day deal with a whole new stress level i would never want to deal with

I am leaving for Vegas Saturday .....

gotta support the economy

Drunks speak louder because the alcohol reduces your hearing's sensitivity.
You start getting kicked off flights for alcohol, maybe you should go to an AA meeting.

Let me quote from the Federal Regulations that cover this topic:
"No certificate holder may allow any person to board any of its aircraft if that person appears to be intoxicated."
- and -
"No person may assault, threaten, intimidate, or interfere with a crewmember in the performance of the crewmember's duties aboard an aircraft..."

As a pilot, I can say that these are fairly clear to us. I don't know if threatening/intimidating was at work here..I'm just pointing out the two regs that most often come into play when getting someone invited off of the aircraft. If you are under the influence, you will probably not get past the gate agent. If you do, and the F/A has a problem, then they'll ask to have you removed.
This isn't just a battle of personalities....these are federal regs that we're required to live by. If we don't,they can fine the airline, take away our licenses, etc, etc. Risks that most of us aren't willing to put our careers on the line for.
If you are drunk, and try to get on one of our airplanes, you're probably not going flying today. Gotta pay for your own hotel? So sad, should have thought of that before you put my license in jeopardy.
( I don't fly for CO, so when I say 'our' airplanes, I'm not talking specifically about CO, but the industry in general).

The only time I have had more than one drink before a flight (usually zero so I don't dehydrate), I drank three large beers at a EWR bar before boarding a flight to IAH.

However, I didn't mouth off at the flight attendant. That's the key -- if you're going to drink, keep your big mouth shut. Under the influence, you don't realize what you're saying until it's too late. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

This is what p*sses me off the most; blame 9/11 for everything; saying "I don't like your attitude" is not a reason to toss someone

I once said to another FA in reference to a FA on the plane; "that I can see where CO FA's get their reputation; her attitude sucks" and the male FA came by and gave me a lecture on how he could have me tossed instantly. I kept my mouth shut after that but the airlines use 9/11 as an excuse for everything; Get over it; it's 18 months later and start finding new excuses why your airline is being run into the ground.

A side note; I later saw this male FA in a hotel bar and finished my comments that I never was able to finish on the plane. Its amazing how they are nothing but little cowards off the plane.

I do not think this has anything to do with 9/11. A drunk got into a plane, mouthed off to the F/A and was sent on his way.
What annoys me are people who misbehave and then blame 9/11 for being told off.
[edited to had that last sentence and for spelling]
