JonNYC, what makes you come back to CO forum again? I thought you are trying to get rid of all your OnePass miles. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I also stop and stare at car accidents and ledge-walkers.

Still trying to get rid of the last of my OnePass miles-- nobody wants 'em! (At a fair price, of course http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif )

Regarding drunk airline passengers, there was a WN flight in the not too distant past where a man WAS KILLED while being restrained by the passengers. Apparently he was extremely belligerent and it being a WN flight some of the male pax over-restrained him a bit whereupon he died.

I wanted to make something clear here, if the pilot of the aircraft would have talked with Ryan either in the galley or jetway I firmly believe Ryan would have been able to fly or at least would have had a better understanding of the captains actions. However it wasnt the case, the flight attendent went and cried wolf at the pilot and in turn the pilot told the attendent to eject him.

Well, I for one am glad someone's enjoying his youth and with the way Ryan lives his, it seems like getting kicked off of a CO flight just goes in the stories-to-tell-my-friends bin.

Have fun, but be a little careful, Ryan.

I don't know if the FAA permits those "under the influence" to fly, the CAA certainly does not. If the captain is alerted to a drunk passenger here in Great Britain, he/she has no absolutely no discretion in the matter, he/she [/i][/b]must[/i][/b] be offloaded.

Friendly, or passive drunks (Like me, I just doze off), unfortunately have been known to change into bellicose tyrants, once the cabin pressure forces more alcohol into the brain cells.

Even if the lives of the aircraft's occupants are not put in danger, the ranting and raving of a drunk cause alarm and can be quite traumatising for passengers trapped at 36000 feet in a flexing aluminium tube!

and who could argue with that kind of logic.

Folks my problem here is not exactly being kicked off. Whether or not someone who is under the influence is calm problems can happen with some people. And now a days safety is important. My PROBLEM is that the captain never even saw me, and was rude. What is this going to lead to? FA's having PAX kicked off for... My being kicked off is my problem I should have kept my mouth shut, but this FA cried to the pilot because she didn't like me and I Was off. What would happen if a FA saw an old HS ememy etc, and makes up BS to the pilot and he/she is off, and cannot do anything. I know this is extreme but, it can happen. Laugh at what I have done in the past. At least I am having fun, and no matter what I have no regrets. I may complain about little things, but believe me I do contribute quite a bit to the companies which I have gripes with. Well I gotta go have some Dim Sum and beer. Too early to get drunk...

Cheers Ciao Adios etc

Well, trying to comb through the many varied topics in this thread, I find myself coming to the following conclusions:

1) Society often forces us to defend those elements we can't stand in order to test our commitment to our principles. Let’s take a fraction of time to truly ponder if the type of judgement and actions exercised here was appropriate. What protections of the innocent are in place if a captain can eject a passenger because his FA is “uncomfortable"? What if he/she were “uncomfortable” because I was carrying my medicine and he/she thought it was drugs? What if my missing arm let to discomfort? Or if I was wearing a turban? Or was an African American? Or a Jew?

2) The airlines lost the authority to manage security on the ground because they abused and neglected it. Do we really want the TSA to have their authority extended onto the aircraft because of Pilot / FA abuse and/or neglect? Is it really OK in our mind for a captain to eject a passenger sight unseen on the word of an FA? Have we never seen FA’s that were wrong – sometimes VERY wrong?

3) Gordo is a Liar. (Ok that was a gratuitous given, but this is the CO forum) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

sllevin Mar 22, 2003 8:59 am

Ryan,

While you raise a good point, the truth is, the "honor system" still works for many, many things. Certainly, an FA could abuse "power" -- but at the risk of getting caught. What if the pilot THAT day decided to chat with the potential problem passenger?

I am sure that any FA caught trying to get his old High School enemy (and let's face it, who would even recognize them? Heck, at my 10 year reunion I hardly recognized half of my FRIENDS from high school...) tossed would quite possible lose their job.

Again,

1) perhaps you weren't quite as "in control" as you thought you were.

2) Even if you were charming and polite, still, many stories begin with "he was drunk but when we boarded it didn't seem like he'd be a problem..."

CRIED WOLF??!?!?!?! Ryan admitted that he was drunk. How is that crying wolf????? Incidentally, the Pilot can't be in the cabin for boarding and take-off, that's what they hire the F/A's for. If a F/A has any apprehensions about flying with ANYONE for ANY reason, the Pilots will almost always back the F/A's up without question. It's a matter of trust and watching out for each other. Not only that, the Pilots are not the ones that have to deal with the drunk, out of control passengers that manage to make it on board. Finally, if the Pilot had pulled Ryan aside and spoken to him in the galley, by Ryan's own admission, he would have smelled the alcohol on Ryan's breath and would have had him removed then. So, please, give the flight crews a break - they are doing their job.

Correct. Your problem is that you boarded a plane while intoxicated.

JonNYC Mar 22, 2003 11:08 am

I don't know who exactly to blame here; Ryan, The FA, the pilot, Gordo, the terrorists, the media... the list goes on and on.

OTOH, there's nothing worse than a dumb drunk who can't see what the rest of the world sees so clearly-- that he's a total jackass.
