This is jackal commandeering AKScotty's login on beckoa's computer. (He's too tipsy to post anyway.
)
AKScotty will be joining us for our big bash on NYE. Welcome him to the FlyerTalk fold! ^
I (jackal) will be updating this thread later this evening or perhaps tomorrow--I haven't had a chance to get on FT in a few days!

OK, the wife and I just finished watching "Did you hear about the Morgans?" and saw "Up in the Air" already playing. So someone make a command decision and decide what day we want to see it.
The Morgans was an OK couples movie and the lines for Avatar were ridiculously long.
Glenn
p.s. Too bad they don't have Up in the Air 3D

Stellertonei made up a Doodle to help us decide on the time. Everyone: check it out and post your preferences. Tomorrow (Tuesday) works best for me, but Wednesday early afternoon might be possible.
If I were in charge, I'd pick the 6:15 show tomorrow (Tuesday), as it seems to work for the most people. Arranging meet-ups on FT is like herding cats, though, so I don't know if we can pull it all together on such short notice.
Help me drum up the support! I'm advertising as best I can. No one's responding!

Everyone, please post your confirmation for the big bash at Bob's!

Now I am getting some grief from other friends from committing already
(The ones I nearly blew up last year... when I was sober
) -> Tried converting one over to ANC... but they seem to be firm footed in ER...
But may need some pyrotechnics regardless...

You're the officer in charge, here--you should make the command decision!

I'm delegating stellertony to arrange everything, since I'm just now heading to bed and can't very well plan a get-together while I'm sleeping.
See you all sometime later today!

Ruthalaska said maybe....
Movie was very...interesting. Very much more like an independent film than a major studio picture--I don't think a major studio picture would have left things as literary and not nice and tidy and happy. But, that kind of stuff makes the critics happy and likely to call it a "deep, thought provoking movie," which it was. Certainly paints a very interesting picture of our need for human companionship. The book very clearly showed how lonely and full of despair a life on the road without commitment and companionship is and left me wanting to make sure I didn't end up like that. I don't want to spoil anything, but suffice it to say, the movie kind of leaves you with the opposite impression--that pursuing commitment and companionship will only leave you worse off and that it's not worth the risk.
But anyway, definitely worth seeing. After the movie, Major G regaled me, stellertony, and Ruthalaska (and Ruth's +1 friend) with fabulous stories of flying United 777s over Baghdad. I want his job!
After the movie, I headed over to a friend's, where I watched BSG over pizza and a very, very nice Terrazas '06 Malbec I grabbed at Costco the other day. I think Malbec is becoming my new favorite varietal. Missy, I understand, now! (I might have to go back to Costco and grab a few more...)
And please, please, people--let us know if you're planning or even at all interested in joining us for New Year's Eve! Bob needs to know how much to make...you don't want to show up hungry and find nothing for you, do you?

Might try to send some tonight so they can respond tomorrow.
vysean has some potential dates in mind, and if I can get an idea from these companies about which set works better, hopefully we can get things committed by earlyish next week, maybe...?
If they don't reply, then maybe we'll just pick the dates and run with it, and if these activities don't work out, then we'll just do the ones we can't do this time next year.

The companies I was planning on negotiating with in person about activities were severely under-represented at a recent Christmas party I attended (i.e. no one showed up). I've been meaning to dispatch some emails as a backup plan, but I've been playing Mr. IT Guy at work for the last week (replacing routers, migrating networks from workgroups to domains, wiping and reinstalling everything from scratch after years of misuse by computer neophytes [i.e. FILLED with viruses, malware, spambots, yadda yadda yadda]) and have not been able to catch my breath.
Might try to send some tonight so they can respond tomorrow.

- to somewhere besides Alaska)...Now would this be a good time to add on a stop in ADK for a couple o' days?
