OK Kids, you decide. I have a family dinner every Sunday night, but they are usually headed home around 7. Any of the above mentioned nights work for me.

Any thoughts on other activities? Poker maybe?

Update for anyone following this: the 2008 Winter Solstice Do is delayed (like many AS flights...).

We may meet up for a "post-solstice-days-are-getting-longer" do on Monday or Tuesday evening--please post if you're interested.

Thanks for the message jackal. I was just about to call and get better directions - got done for the day early. I have tentative conflicts for tomorrow and Tuesday, but keep me posted - my schedule's been relatively flexible lately.

I also may (or may not) fly out on Tuesday night via Seattle...but am hoping that AS doesn't make that plan flexible!

Works for me as well. If tonight's a go, could someone please PM me with the address? I've unfortunately never been to Casa de Bob.

What about akdude, ANC and BillScann? Hope they're not stuck in SEA/PDX.

Hello ANC Red-eye,
I am a FTer doing an MR later this week (DTW-MSP-ANC-MSP-DTW) and will spend a full-day in Anchorage on December 27 before heading back on the morning of December 28. What would you suggest would be a good touristy thing to do in ANC that day? If some Fters from the ANC area would like to get together for dinner or drinks that evening that would be great, too.

Thanks for whatever orientation you can give me.

I won't be able to make it to any dinner (I would be available during the day until 4pm for a lunch-type thing), but perhaps others here can.

As far as what to do in such a short time: well, Anchorage is a good base for exploring the real Alaska nearby, but especially in the winter, there's not tons to do in the city itself. Still, you should be able to occupy yourself for at least most of the day with a couple of the local museums--the Anchorage Museum of History and Art isn't too shabby, and the Alaska Native Heritage Center is an interesting (if expensive) option.

If you're OK with driving in winter conditions, you can head out of Anchorage to the south or north a bit (south to Girdwood or Portage or north to Palmer--both under an hour each way) for some pretty spectacular scenery.

Check out the Wikitravel page on Anchorage (some of which was written by yours truly...especially the restaurant listings! ) for some ideas.

I do have more friends in town due to the holidays... but I might be open the 27th after 6 PM... (when I get off work) or depending on when you are flying out Sunday... something then... but I am noncommittal at this point ...

Great to see you guys. I hope you all enjoyed the wine I brought.

Well...

Well, ok: brought in, to be precise, from Bob's wine rack. I know Bob did! Happy New Year to all!

Let's do lunch if you're still available. How to connect?
