davew-krdm is coming to town in October and looking @ chillin a bit at least Saturday Night the 16th, (he's got a typical AS redeye home ...and of course the BR isn't open that late)

Looking to see what other ANC FT'ers (or traveling thru the area) want to chill- I don't know my schedule yet, but should be off by 7ish, so we could get something to eat...

Lookin' forward to my second annual "ANC in October for no real reason" mini-vacation, this time bringing my daughter (who's 7 and really looking forward to the trip).

It would definitely be fun to put some faces to names I read here each day.

Saturday AM we'll get kicked out of our hotel and need to occupy ourselves until after midnight, so that eve it would be great to meet some folks. Could definitely do the BR early if nothing else.

BR would be cool, unfortunately it closes at 7:30 PM on Saturday... kinda early for a redeye...

I'll know next week what my work schedule looks like, but tentatively, we could get a bite to eat somewhere... Does either your daughter or yourself have a preference on what to eat (if this sounds interesting)... I am flexible too (other then my work schedule ~ grr)

Personally, I'm a brewpub fan so anywhere that's at all kid-friendly in that vein would work .

Mmm...sounds like a visit to Glacier BrewHouse or Moose's (or Bear) Tooth might be in order...

All this Asian food over here is good, but what I wouldn't give for a good, juicy Bear Tooth burger sometimes...

Thanks, beckoa, for keeping the thread running smoothly in my absence! Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to easily edit the first post in this thread with the details of Dave's visit since I'm doing this on my phone, but I'll see what I can do when I get to an Internet cafe...

Saturday night is the 18th. Unfortunately I will be flying home from DEN so I won't be able to make it. One seat left in F so I have no chance of an UG. Have fun & tip one for me.

OK, the first post's been updated with the appropriate details, although someone needs to clarify exactly what the date is (is it Saturday or the 16th? The 16th is a Thursday).

I've also mentioned missydarlin's post-dinner drinks at Humpy's. Drink one for me (and eat a nice piece of halibut for me, too!).

Can't make drinks. I fly to Denver Tuesday morning so I'll miss the Gold meetings. MD, have one for me & take good notes, especially on the (dreaded) Platinum level.

We'll be around from Th noon (16th) to Su 0050 (19th). A late dinner on Saturday would be great - even as late as 8.

OK--updated. I also added a couple of suggested locations for your kid-friendly brewpub!

Unless folks are sick of it, I'd like to try the Moose's Tooth.

Last time in ANC, my best meal was at Thai Orchid on E Dimond - we'll probably go there on Friday. If anyone has any favorite restaurants to share that you think we shouldn't miss while in town, let me know here or via PM - we're pretty adventurous eaters.

Thanks!

Somewhere in the Alaska subforum (the state, not the airline), I think I had a nice long list of the top 10 (or so) restaurants in Anchorage along with a brief description of each one. You might find it if you search--although I may have instead posted it on another site which has now been taken down (in which case it exists solely on my now-virtually-defunct-but-waiting-for-repair laptop). For now, here are my recommendations:
  • Simon and Seafort's - You'll feel like you're walking into an upper-class saloon out of the old west as you dine on fabulous dishes from meats to fish (try the halibut cheeks crusted in Parmesan asiago cheeses and braised in a beurre blanc sauce) above a stunning view of Cook Inlet.
  • Orso - Fusion Alaskan-Italian in a very nice, quiet, almost romantic setting, it features great seafood and trendy Italian-influenced dishes (that's about the best description I can come up with)
  • Glacier Brewhouse - Owned by the same people as Orso's, its atmosphere is a bit more casual and geared towards grilled meats, wood-fired pizzas, cold and hot sandwiches, and, of course, beers brewed right on the premises (you can see the tanks behind the bar area).
  • Sacks Cafe - Tucked on a side street a few blocks behind the bigger, famous restaurants, it's much less well known but serves great light, fresh dishes.
  • Cafe Croissant - A relative newcomer, Cafe Croissant is Anchorage's best attempt at French (or French-influenced) cafe food, and they do a pretty dang good job. Excellent soups and sandwiches and things, and definitely try some of the pastries for dessert!
  • Double Musky - A ways south of town, this restaurant serves Cajun food straight from Louisiana. Try their famous peppercorn steak.
  • Bear Tooth Grill and Theatrepub - Same owner as Moose's Tooth but the menu is completely different (though they share microbrews between the two). There are actually two halfs to this restaurant: the Bear Tooth Grill, featuring everything from burgers to enchiladas, and the Bear Tooth Theatrepub, which has a smaller segment of Moose's Tooth-style pizzas and appetizers. The real draw of the Theatrepub side is that you can order your pizzas, breadsticks and beers in the lobby and then go into the theater and watch arthouse, foreign and second-run flicks while you wait for your food to be delivered to your seat. A unique experience, as far as I've been able to tell.

I know there are others, but these are the ones that come to mind right now. I'm sure some folks will post others or critique my choices...

Club Paris for the best filet & steaks in town and
Big Al's Wings & Wings, a worthy successor the the late (and greatly missed) Wings & Things. They are in Spenard, so it's a little out of the wayfor me, but definitely worth the visit. Great wings & subs.
