I don't think GU Wonder is, just took his post as a little funny, hence the wide grin.

That this tempest in a Canadian teapot may end up pushing the overall ballots cast in this TB election I'm sure an unintended but positive result.

OK, let's put it this way.

A few people got their feelings hurt because they couldn't disguise their voting...or lack of same.

But this thread and the avatars raised the TB voting issue to, I predict, record heights. And to record voting levels or I'll eat my words.

And perhaps incentivized a few members to look into the TB voting process and candidates a little deeper. And perhaps vote for a few folks they thought would help build the future of FT.

So, bottomline, IMO, this whole issue is a positive for FT.

Yup. This thread reminded me to vote, which I did.

And taught me how to turn on avatars.

Well history (both on and off FlyerTalk) has certainly proven that negative taken actions during a campaign often turn out to back-fire and produce a result exactly opposite of that which was intended. @:-)

Such is life.

Punki....as I consider you one of my FT buddies and I promised above that I would needle anyone who didn't have an "I Voted" avatar, let this be your official notice.

I see you have decided on 4 of your 5 votes per your signature.

Look forward to seeing the avatar soon.

Why would you think any image of the US flag, no matter how small or abstract, would qualify as "jingoistic"?

Unless that term has an alternate definition in Australian slang, it would seem you went out of your way to be intentionally offensive to those of us who claim US citizenship.

Because quite simply, it is when used like this on an International Board such as FT as the only alternate avatar 'choice'.

Either have 192 different flag Avatars for all UN countries - or none. Simple really.

Like techgirl I returned from the London MegaDo full of warm thoughts & feelings re: FT & FTers. I don't feel sad like her after reading the thread - instead incredulous. Folks, life is just too darn short to get so worked up over something like this!!!

Good grief - if you're going to put that kind of passion into arguments, how 'bout doing it on something that really matters in life vs a perceived problem on an internet bulletin board - and if you're going to continue picking apart various countries political processes & flags & where democracy started, could you do it in OMNI & leave Community to its normal purpose?

I do think it's funny, though, that the intent of the OP was to boycott voting & the result will probably be an increase in voting.

Cheers.

I agree. I've also just returned from the London DO and have read this 7 page thread. Like SkiAdcock, I'm incredulous. I think Randy has shown remarkable restraint in his comments on this topic.

I have nothing against the avatars. My comment was meant as a joke.

Let me reverse my plea: How do I get an avatar that says, 'I voted ... twice!' nota bene ->:

Oh, well, still not very funny, but at least understood, I hope.

I, too, am a bit surprised that this whole thing can arouse such passions.
