Since Alitalia is still in business and does look good for at least another month, we are scheduled on AZ607/1455 EWR-MXP-VCE arriving 335PM on 18Nov. We are coming in just between Kathy and Dorlee and, barring their being delayed, have been expecting to hang out for Dorlee and Leonard in order to share a water taxi. It seems like quite a long wait for Kathy, but she can be sure that I'm buying the first round if she's in the airport when we get there.

I figure she probably will -- considering the alternative. (Arriving at the Ai Mori when there will be no Flyer Talkers there other than O2K, DocO2K, and myself -- and the O2Ks will probably be at a late Italian lunch, leaving Kathy to fend me off by herself.) |

Ok, back on track, does anyone know the best way to get from NCE to VCE? Tried expedia.com, one way fare on Alitalia (?) with connection in Milan, was $598.00! Yikes! Then I checked raileurope.com, there was an overnight train, $99.00 one way. Is water taxi an option? Gondola? (Long story: I have been robbed twice while Euro-passing through Italy, so I'd prefer not to take the train unless there is absolutely no other way.) |
I looked at car rentals and the plane would be cheaper!
Take a First Class ticket and you should probably be okay. Europeans are very class conscious, so even if you are robbed it will be by a more aristocratic thief. |
Belle, the best alternative I could find was you taking the train to Genoa and then flying to Venice through Milan. This was $230 for the flight.
I think you are probably better off on the train. |
Not sure of your specific travel date, but it looks like a round-trip on Alitalia would only be $249 NCE/VCE. Guess you could "miss" your return flight, if you really don't need it! ;)

In all seriousness, though, my plan is to take the Alilaguna waterBUS (for about 10 Euros or US $12) rather than the water taxi. The details of which line to take, which stop to get off at, its website, etc. have been MUCH discussed on previous posts of this thread already, for example: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showp...&postcount=314; and I've taken it before. Of course, if others are landing closer to my arrival time, I would consider sharing a water taxi. But I don't want or need to wait for hours and hours for others, nor do I expect anyone else to do so for me. |
Kathy,
In that case I will meet you at the hotel and escort you to my room. Err, uh, I mean make certain that you are able to check in to your room without any problem. I hope you don't mind but I have always found that after sharing the Great Pleasure with a woman, I always enjoy having a cigarette. So after your luggage is put away, and we have a chance to walk to a nearby bar for the great pleasure of our first glasses of Venice Meet vino, please understand when I light up. |
....All I can say is, I sure as hell hope the UIG never reads FlyerTalk!!!

:D Why do you think I am working so hard to get a Religious Traveler's Forum established? If she ever does come here I am going to need expert advice on how to get Divine Assistance in a major hurry! |
In exactly three weeks I will be on my Flight From Hell.
With all due respect to you nutcases on FlyerTalk who actually enjoy being bored to death in a cigar tube being hurdled through the sky at 600 mph, any flight which lasts over 4 hours is intolerable. My TLV-EWR flight, at 12 hours and 20 minutes, therefore fully qualifies as a Flight From Hell. True, being in Continental's Business Class makes it somewhat more endurable than sitting in Coach but even that is not enough to make it something to which I am looking forward. Besides, I only have a 1 hr, 50 minute break in EWR before having to get back in the air and heading to FLL. On the bright side, my trip back will be broken up a bit more. I will fly MIA-MXP with a couple of hours in CDG and then have about two 2 weeks before continuing on to TLV. And, of course, in the midst of all this will be the Venice Meet -- where I will have the immense pleasure of watching all the female F/Ters wishing that they were the UIG. No, not because she has me. Simply because she can take a short train ride there and back. (Well, that and because she has me!) |
Posting update for Jerrie
Jerrie arrives on AA 7777 (operated by SNBrussels) at 11:45am on the 19th. It looks like the DL folks get in a couple hours earlier and the AF folks a couple hours later. She will take the bus unless we are reading the flight schedules incorrectly. And thanks for compiling the info Kathy. |

Or you could do what I do. 1) Go find the most comfortable chair in your house. 2) Sit down in it 3) Do not get excited and fall asleep 4) Sleep for most of 12 hours! |

The slots might be best but I wouldn't mind having her near me at the roulette table either. For that matter, with four 7's, backed up by two aces, I want her around if I can get Cholula et al into a game of 7 card stud! |
