Are those American sizes? If so, are they 8 = dress, 9 = neck, 11 = hat, 12 = shoe?

I sure hope so, because if they are I will finally get to meet someone built more weirdly than I am!

Odd request, but is there any way I can find hotel space during this event for two adults and 5 children without paying an arm and a leg? I don't care about luxury in this instance. We are buying a new family car (Grand Scenic) and this would be a great first road trip.

Basically I'm trying to find a way to make it to this event and this is my latest angle. ;) However I still don't know about schedule availability yet.

Stimpy,

Your two best bets would be looking for a hotel on Mestre or on Lido. Mestre is always less expensive and you will get free parking. Lido is more expensive than Venice proper in the summer but in November you can get fanastic bargains -- and, again, with free parking.

(You will, however, have to pay for a ferry to take the car there - something which isn't necessary in Mestre.)

You can also find a number of B&B's in Venice, including in Lido.

Stimpy, I just did a quick check on Expedia and found a 3 1/2 star hotel in Lido called "Le Boulevard Hotel" where a triple room would cost you $110 for Saturday night (Nov 20). Two rooms and you are in business!

The Holiday Inn in Mestre would cost you $135 per night for a triple room, but you would save on the cost of the ferry for your car.

Stimpy, you might try www.hotelclub.com That is where we found our great rate for the Ai Mori, thanks to KathyWdrf's great tip.

stimpy I can recommend this rental agency. An apartment would seem to be a good option. They have apartments in all kinds of price categories and their descriptions are very accurate.

Actually, the best idea is to get the lowest cancellable internet rate you can find. As you drive into the city you will see an Tourist Information building on your right (before the parking areas). Stop in there and see if you can get a better deal. When the hotels aren't full, they very often give rock-bottom prices there and I think that in November you will have a very good shot.

Thanks for the thanks, but the credit actually is due to SanDiego1K. She posted the site some months back on the original NOV 20 Meet in Venice thread.

Number of FT'rs attending diinner on Nov 20

Dovster, do we have a fairly accurate count as to how many will be attending our FT dinner? I am trying to solidify our reservation at one of two nearby trattorias.

Nope. We don't.

Here is the situation: We have 26 people on the definite list, although one of them (Orseo) seems to have disappeared.

We have 7 people on the "Possible" list. Based soley on their lack of activity on this thread, I am presuming that four of them (CAWhite, Dan1431, RCS85551, and RKT10) don't see their participation as very likely.

Of the others, SanDiego1K I would consider "probable". I know that Indufan would like to come but still is not certain about his schedule and Stimpy would like to make it but also is not certain if he will be able. I also don't know if Stimpy would come to the dinner alone, with his girlfriend, or with his girlfriend and five children.

My rather complicated travel expectations for late November have now collapsed neatly from an infeasible list of destinations across three continents (LHR, MXP, SEA for work and CDG, GRU and MEX for play) to actually, definitely working in Italy for the whole month.

So I hope I'll be joining you guys in VCE... most likely staying at the Gritti Palace. Arriving 20th AM, departing 21st PM. :-:

I've got a copy of "Venice in Context, The Independent Traveler's Guide to Venice", which came with two CD's containing 12 walking tours of Venice narrated by Joel Godard. My people (well, my husband and son :) ) have ripped them and we now have 12 MP3 files which they will put on my Clie.

The sound is good, the narrator a little smarmy like all those guys who do the museum audio tours, but they are informative and quite listenable. Anyone who has an iPod or other audio device is welcome to PM me.

Tour 1: Introduction, Piazza San Marco 19:32 minutes
Tour 2 : Interior of Basilica 18:15 minutes
Tour 3: Exterior of Doge's Palace 7:40 minutes
Tour 4: Bell Tower, Library, Mint 9:42 minutes
Tour 5: Bridge of Sighs, Waterfront 13:57 minutes
Tour 6: School of St. George of the Dalmations 6:30 minutes
Tour 7: Church of St. George Major 7:28 minutes
Tour 8: Basilica of St Mary in Glory of the Brothers 18:06 minutes
Tour 9: Orseolo Basin and the story of the Gondola 3:51 minutes
Tour 10: Rialto Bridge, Church of St. James 4:50 minutes
Tour 11: Church of St Mary of Health, Customhouse 8:54 minutes
Tour 12: Church of Saints John and Paul 15:13 minutes

The School of St. George of the Dalmations is a must on my list because of the paintings by Carpaccio. Raw meat and dogs sounds like my kind of school. Arf! Arf!

Stimpy sounds super. He has five children and still had time, energy and enough charm to acquire a girlfriend? Or the GF had five kids and enough time energy and charm to acquire Flyer Talker Stimpy?

O2K:Another dinner possible: a fellow Flyer Talker or perhaps just lurker will be joining Joanne and me. I don't know his handle or if he has one, but he's a FTer in that he changed our stupid tickets to something non-stop that makes sense and gives us two extra days in Venice. We're still in Yhine but arrive Friday at 9:50 am (see ya for drinkies, yes!!) instead of Saturday and leave Thursday morning to arrive just in time to hit the respective Thanksgiving tables in San Francisco and San Diego Thursday afternoon. (Yes, we will not be a riot of cheer and conversation could be limited, but it fulfills the family obs.)

All times are GMT -6. The time now is 8:52 am.
