Get this kind.

Now what did I do with my hip waders? :p

The Venetians tend to uniformly wear a light olive knee-high boot that might be located with the search terms "horse stall mucking-out." Not that the pop-art Adorable boots would mark you as a tourist ....

Julia Roberts borrowed them

BTW, I read somewhere that Venetians walk slowly in order to avoid splashing, and tourists use the raised walkways. (Venetians is beginning to sound like something on Star Trek, what's the Italian word for resident of Venezia?)

So what are the chances that we would need these knee-high boots? When it rains that much in Florida, I stay home.

Please do not concern yourselves with the high water. I always travel to VCE during fall and winter. VCE is so well-prepared. There are planks set up all over the city. Those wooden planks go up as quickly at those umbrellas appear in NYC. Those planks are just another bridge to cross. It is not a big deal. I have never brought special shoes or socks and have managed just fine.

I had the same question. Also for the Venice regulars, do you pack/bring your knee high boots with you, buy if needed when in Venice, go without or....?

edited to add: Obscure2k is quick!

Guess I have to be considered a VCE regular. Sweet Willie I would love to have a conversation with you via PM or e-mail re: VCE.

If there really is going to be a tidal flood...

Maybe we should bring swimsuits/scuba gear instead? :)

:-: Signora Ob2k :-: , Ma'am, would you please send a note on my behalf to Marco that I would like to request my upgraded room to be on the highest available floor? :D

Mille grazie!

Bellamissima Just a reminder that in VCE that the better rooms are normally closer to the ground. The original palazzos had the nobility and/or doges living in the grand quarters on the first floor. The ground floor was the water landing (At AiOriente, the ground floor is reception and the bar). The upper floors traditionally had smaller rooms which were designated for the servants. This is why you will find the Piano Nobile on the First Floor of most of the grand palazzos. At the Gritti Palace, the Hemingway Suite is on the First floor. The crummy singles are at the top. Now, having said that, I believe that there are 3 floors at AiOriente. I do not recall 1-3 being any different.

Geesh, You ARE quick!

If the water on the ground is two feet deep, I'd rather sleep in a dry, smaller room than wearing rubbers, uhm, galoshes to bed in a Presidential Suite, Signora O. :)

Maybe I was the next flyer to post. You'll never know.

I made a post here yesterday and it disappeared after a short while. No moderator told me of its deletion. I still have no idea of who did it or in what way it was a TOS violation. I was certainly not given a chance to edit it.

The post in question offered to buy a glass of vino in Venice for a member who will be attending the meet but whose name, apparently, is not mentionable any longer on Community Buzz.
