Technology Strategist/Product and Program Manager

Just downsized this morning...my first RIF :(

Technology strategist with cross-functional team management, product management and program management experience in the virtualization space.

Open to consulting, or taking on a full-time direct role with a technology company looking for someone to help drive innovation.

Specialized in managing the internal use of the company's products to strategize best practice models for customers.

Based in South Florida, but open to travel, partial or full telecommute....would consider relocation for the right opportunity.

From my reading, he learns a product inside and out and then learns the prospect/customer inside and out, and comes up with the right application of the product for that prospect/customer.

Ha, good question :)

My 'ex' company makes enterprise virtualization software and networking devices. Customers want to know how we use our own products, as we also have a global IT infrastructure to manage. They want to see us using our own products for confidence reasons (if we don't use it, why should they buy it), and best-practices guidance (if we use it in such a way, they can learn from that).

My group was involved in architecting almost all of these products for internal use, starting with alpha and beta versions. We developed live environments to mirror production, permitting beta products to experience real-world tests outside the lab to find bugs, usability and overall design flaws, and then help engineering correct those flaws before the product was released to paying customers.

Within this framework, my job was to understand the overall corporate product strategy, and then strategize which products should be prioritized, and how the overall big picture architecture should look. I was the key team bridge to the product managers, often working with them to develop new features and brainstorm ways to fix some of the deficiencies we found, as well as help strategize new features and opportunities for their products. I'm proud to say my personal fingerprint is on a slew of enterprise infrastructure products used by millions of people around the world.

I'm also well versed in the product management concepts of SDBS (sell-design-build-service) and 'Purple Cow', for those who follow Seth Godin. This development process served one of our divisions very well, enabling them to essentially just print money.

Who ME Feb 1, 2009 11:50 pm

Hi everyone,

I recently joined the ranks of the unemployed.

I have 4 years experience in field marketing and sales. Mainly, I traveled to customer locations to train retail sales people on our products. I merchandised local and remote stores when possible to improve shelf position and visibility. I also visited local distributors to engage the salespeople, trained them on the benefits and features of our products and supported their efforts to sell our products in the consumer electronics and computer components and peripherals space.

Additionally, I supported our trade show department at many national shows including CES, MacWorld and others.

Previously, I was a photojournalist at a medium-sized newspaper on the gulf coast of Florida. (I wonder if I am the one killing the industries?)

I would like to explore opportunities in sales or continue in a marketing role. Of course I am open to travel and I am home-based between DFW and Love Field.

I would appreciate a PM if you think any opportunities at your company may fit my profile. I would of course list you as a referral for the purpose of any available referral bonuses.

Thank you and best of luck to the other flyertalk members out looking for new career opportunities.

I had seen this thread in the CommunityBuzz forum on and off for a while. Sadly, the economic realities have led me to post in search of a job.

Resume summary: Achievement-oriented IT development manager with over 15 years of experience seeks challenging IT management position to make an immediate impact as a key contributor in a growth-oriented organization. Ideal position would utilize extensive involvement in the architecture, design, implementation, testing and support of large-scale information systems and experience with varied staffing models, including consulting services, managed services, off-shore resources, contractors and in-house staff. Recognized skills include analytical ability, work prioritization and ability to successfully communicate with both technical and business audiences.

Needless to say, travel is NOT a problem.

If anyone is interested in seeing the remainder of the resume, please PM me.

Hire the FTer

And I am out aswell. Drats.

I work(ed) for a design group developing master plans and resorts for clients all over the world. Those days have gone on hold. I was released last week and now collect California Unemployment.

I am taking this time to loads of fun trips and Mileage Runs, but that can only last for a short time.

I am looking for a new and challenging career, preferably something with international travel and experiences involved.

I was considering a Working Holiday in Australia or PR in Singapore, but I know the FT group has a better handle on this.

I am a team player, self starter, and capable of project and client management. I don't necessarily have to stay in the design / planning field.

Any suggestions?

Well, why not post here too! You never know what will turn up :)

I've worked most of my life as a consultant in various sectors. Initially I started off in general IT (primarily network design and maintenance), and then moved into telecommunications security and risk management. I also worked as an insurance and commercial fraud investigator for a year before moving on to developing a web based application for a Government agency to track, manage, and analyse investigations and their targets.

I've also worked for a number of large telco's as a freelance "dealmaker" - helping to negotiate interconnect agreements between large Tier-1 telcos such as AT&T, France Telecom, Orange, Telecom Italia, Singtel, Telecom New Zealand, and Vodafone.

Ideally, I'd be looking for some sort of telco security or fraud prevention/detection position, but I'm more than willing to look at other IT, Telco, Law Enforcement, or Intelligence fields. I have a number of industry certifications in all of these fields and am happy to provide my CV if I hear something I like the sound of ;)

International travel would be a huge plus, and am happy to relocate from my current city of Auckland, New Zealand if needed.
