Who Am I... Where Am I????
Well after reading this site for a while (and the occaisional post) I thought I would post my bio.
My name is Kathy.. I'm 20 something (okay turning 30 next month). I live in Austin, TX, but really only spend about 8-10 days there a month. I work for a National Builder Owned Mortgage Company. I travel between out 38 offices in the US Monday - Friday (that is why I rarely am in Austin). I've resorted to answering the questions I get from co-workers... Do you have a husband? Do you have kids, pets, plants, etc...? With the same response "I have nothing that dies if I don't come home!!!" I have been traveling for a little over 2 years, and absolutely love it. With my busy schedule I sometimes forget to log on and check the site, so whenever I get the flyertalk email I jump on and spend about a hour going through things. I haven't met any other flyertalk members yet, but I'm sure I will run into someone soon. Kathy :) |
Who are Where am I?
Great books of Philosophy have been written on just this same question. That is not what is called for here on FT so here is the Brief:
Name - Bob Work - VP of International Business Dev and also President of Korean subsidiary. I have lived in Europe, Singapore, Korea and US. Live - home in Boston, MA and I commute to Asia monthly and RTW twice annually to visit my company plants in Germany and UK. I have an apartment in Seoul. I have been working internationally for over 40 years which translates to many millions of miles. The good news is that it keeps me feeling young except right after one of my 30 hour commutes - BOS - ICN. I enjoy the FT site and still learn a lot even after all these years. bb |
My real name is Audrey and I've been hanging around FlyerTalk for a few years now. I am a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer and Registered Vascular Specialist. I mostly do short-term traveling assignments and go to a facility for anywhere from one week to three months at a time.
I started becoming a miles/point junkie when my other half became a road warrior. I wasn't traveling very much then so decided that my new hobby was maximizing his airline miles and hotel points. He was a bit confused for the first few weeks but finally settled into the routine of being quizzed on his flight/hotel arrangements and getting e-mails of promotions he couldn't remember signing up for. Now that he has made lifetime gold on American and has had "free" vacations the last two years he's in the groove. I have participated in a few on-line exchanges with other FlyerTalkers and am waiting to see a Flyertalk tag somewhere. Maybe one day I'l even make it to a Do! |
My name is Travis, and while I've enjoyed flying for years, it's not until this year that I've been able to call myself a frequent flyer.
While I am pursuing a degree in journalism, I am very lucky to be able to pursue my other love in my spare time: road racing. I'm the public relations director for a professional sports car racing team, and travel to race venues around the country by air from my home base in Richmond, Calif. - departing from OAKland International Airport, mainly. I average about two trips a month during the racing season - sometimes short hops to PHX, but more often multiple-connect trans/midcons to BHM, ELM, MCO, CMH, RDU, MEX, etc. I started becoming a mileage junkie when... well, I'm racking up thousands of BIS miles on the company dime, might as well take advantage of them :) Hoping to make it to a Do in the future - PSP beckons? ;) |
I'm Alan, soon to be college graduate of a UC Santa Barbara with a BS degree in Biochemistry. Traveled very infrequently in the past (mostly with family), and just recently studied abroad in Korea with solo backpacking trips in Thailand and Cambodia, I am infected deliriously with the travel bug. I'm very interested in working abroad as I didn't find myself missing the states much, even if the native language of the country I was in was about as foreign as FF acronyms to a newbie.
I love to travel, meet new people, share what I've learned and learn about everything else out there. |
NYC STAND UP!
27yo, born and raised in the city of NY (have lived in Brooklyn, Manhattan and presently in Queens), been on FT for a couple of years, and my acitivity here has been directly proportional to the amount travel I do (which in the last 24 months have been plenty!). I work in midtown, pharmaceuticals and do finance & IT work. I also recently started studying for a graduate degree (also in finance) and attend classes on weeknights/weekends. School has put a damper on my travel schedule a bit, but I personally have been enjoying the trade-off. As a frequent travler, FT has to be the most awesome resource I've come across. I've gained priceless knowledge and have earned innumerable points & miles. As some of you might have noticed, I am pretty active on the SPG forums, UAL, OMNI, SQ, and a few others. I have yet to meet any other FT'ers, but would more than welcome the opportunity to get together during the next NYCDO, or even any informal get together. |
I am a newer member: I have known about FT for a long time from "another" travel forum... FT has a reputation for being less-than-patient with newbies so I have lurked for a couple of years ~ I finally decided the bark was worse than the bite and joined in July.
I am late 40's widow. I love to travel, 100% leisure ~ so I am always looking for a hot tip, great deal or clever idea. I don't travel often enough to reach status thresholds so just accumulate points by running all my household expenses (prolly the only time a person can truly say: tuition ~ woohoo!) through points building cc's. I did get my late husbands 250K Aeroplan points with a copy of his Will and Death Certificate ~ I didn't get his status, but I was more than happy with the points! I, and sometimes one or both of my kids, have used them well and wisely.... I am presently a student but I am returning to the real working world in a couple months --- I KNOW working with interfere with my travel plans! :D |
A warm, hearty FT welcome to the five members who have joined this thread so far this month. It is interesting to note that several have been members or at least lurkers for some time. We hope that you will enjoy the FT community so much that you will be enticed to join a 'Do in your home base or on the road.

name: Mary
profession: manager of a team of call center associates (not telemarketers!) location: DFW I don't get to travel much with work but have started feelin' the itch to travel. I'm not picky about where I'll go -- big cities, country, beaches, anywhere! Since I'm funding my own travels, I'll definitely be looking for great fares from DFW to...pretty much wherever! I've sort of come to FT backwards though -- through one of my closest friends (Tech Girl) who (whom?) I know IRL. She's introduced me to a few other FTers who are pretty cool so I thought I'd come and meet some more! |
OK - FWIW:
I'm Dave, in my very very late 40's (oh all right - I'm 50 this month), work as a consultant for one of the bigs. For the last 6 years I've been on the road from Sunday night to Thursday night. Recent gigs have been CLE, CHI and SJC. Home base is MSP (guess what airline). Actually I'm a fan of our home town airline, also a Marriott points junkie. I've been looking for a FT type site for some time now, stumbled on it I think due to a reference somewhere else regarding the NW mechanics strike. So far I'm really impressed by the breadth of topics, looking forward to wasting a lot of time with travel technology, community buzz and travel buzz. Cheers |
