Morning/Afternoon/Evening all!
I'm new here and just having a look around. Thought I'd say hello. Just about to take my first steps into a Business Development role, becoming responsible for Sales/Marketing in Europe for an Indian Pharma company. Looking forward to the challenge, and to getting a few interesting trips in! Anyway, looks like there's an interesting community here who can help me as I get to grips with life as a full-time business traveller! I guess I'll work it out, but would love some hints on WTH all the Abbreviations mean! ;) |

I have been reading/posting for a while. I'm 51. I manage/co-own a small consulting firm with multinational clients. I usually fly business class to Europe (these days London, Amsterdam and Paris), Malaysia, Australia, and occassional other venues plus coach to NY, Tennesee, and various other scenic hotspots. Over the years, I've had clients in Venezuela, Uruguay, Argentina, Peru, Indonesia, Colombia, Germany, Kuwait, China, Canada, and probably other places I can't remember. I'm on the boards of two Canadian companies, which means a few trips a year to Toronto and Calgary. And then there are lots of vacations with my wife and/or teenage kids (in the last 12 months, Australia, NY, Mexico, Paris, Nicaragua, Rome).
I have been picking up useful tips on FT on getting well-taken care of by airlines and credit card companies. Since I'm Lifetime Platinum on American, I'm considering building up elite status on BA and using my QF flights to make that happen. I don't know what one needs to be an elite on BA. I always feel badly treated by AC (rarely mean, though occassionally, but bureaucratically officious) and would love to see if being elite got better treatment there. I've never tried or even considered a mileage run as there just isn't enough time, though the concept is interesting. But, finding ways to make the traveling less painful is something I'd like to do. Spare time is spent with my kids and wife, making sure their lives are running well and keeping the home computer network working. I have freed up a little spare time now that I've just completed a book (though I will probably fly for book tours in the fall). I've got a couple more in mind if I can spare the time. |
After a while I even found this thread and decided to greet y'all as well.
I joined FT on sept. 2005. Lots of interesting posts on here :) I am 28, soon to be 29 located near STR in Germany. Still having problems what all those abbreviations mean, but slowly getting better. :) |
Don't know if anyone still reads this, but here it is:
24 year old Caltech PhD, former Management Consultant (the world could use one less), COO of a biotech company, and now a tenure track university professor. I travel quite a bit to Hawai'i (Maui and Kaua'i) for fun, and all over the world for research conferences, lectures, and collaborations. SS |
German, 35 for a couple of days more, also own my own small consulting firm that is specialised in international development issues.
Be faithful to your wife and to your airline, it is rewarding! |
I'm 36 and a television newscast director in Illinois. I am not a frequent flyer (as opposed to most here). I'm always looking to fly for free or next to free (call it a hobby).
So many places to go, not enough cash (television, believe it or not, pays crap wages). Parting words: I really enjoy this forum. I envy many of you here. Hope to stick around if you'll tolerate me. |
My snapshot
Based out of CLE, new FTer. I fly all over the US as a software technical rep. This new job has added 20lbs to my gut with all the eating out, much to my wife's dismay....bah, we just had our 11th Anniversary, so she's stuck with me!

I'm Wyatt. I work at the help desk for Orbitz/Cheaptickets. I don't fly much, although I would if I could.
Um...that's it. :) |

Do you stay at a Hyatt, Wyatt Riot? If not, I don’t buy it... ...but I suggest that you try it. |

Hi all. I joined FT in February after lurking for a while. I have found many helpful posts here and joined so that I might (hopefully) have an occasional contribution myself. I just noticed this thread and thought I should say howdy. So, "Howdy y'all". I guess I can best be described as an itinerant software developer. I have always gone places, but only in the last 10 years did that include air travel. I love road trips and have been in all 50 states. These days golf is getting more and more of my attention and I have even taken a few trips just to play.
So far I don't travel much for business and am always on the lookout for a good getaway deal. I know I will continue to get great ideas here and hope that I will be able to add to the community. As an aside, I tend to be cynical and sarcastic in my views toward many recent "security" measures and the government's role in our everday lives. So please do not take offense with my take on current events or my sometimes obscure humor. I do not mean any of it to be personal. So many places and so little time... |
