Welcome^, I'm sure you can't name your employer, what city do you work in?

If Vegas, there is a whole forum dedicated to Las Vegas, I’m sure your comments would be welcomed: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/las-vegas-463/

Hi,

Time to introduce myself :

39 years old and now 100% doing my dreamjob ;-)

If someone wants to have some soccer ( USA called) or football-game tips in their travel I can always give you some advice.

For me this forum is something I discovered thanks to the guy behind the blog travel.bart.la . I was 20 years ago a rep in the Tourisme business. Now I am owner of a soccer journalist-mediaum with 6 employees. In order to reduce the cost of my 4 employees in the European Cup I started to read everything here, and it helps a lot!

Thank you

Greetings all….
Between the economic downturn and early retirement, I’m not travelling as much and my contacts circle is narrowing.

I’m enjoying the conversations, opinions and ever-helpful insights offered by the FT members and look forward to contributing (and getting back in the air) soon.

As travels go, I favor Western Europe and the less travelled road….by way of stats: single f, emptynester, living outside of Silicon Valley.
/D.

Villavic

Let me introduce myself. I live in Lima, Peru. A natural born traveler, I have traveled since I was 7, around 25 countries, 70 cities. And within Peru.. countless. Travels are my passion. By plane, by trane, or on my own, off road, etc.

I found this website in 2010 while looking for info about China, my tavel project at that time. Then I started to add posts in other forums (NYC, South America, Argentina, etc.). I love to help people who are planning trips to Peru, any kind of trips.

I'm 45 and have worked in Information Technology since 1989. My nickname is consequence of the old 8 characters limit on filenames (remember DOS? well the same limit was on mainframes). So I used to reduce my lastname that is very long, to Villavic. And everybody at work started to called me so.

Frequent flier miles are actually worth about 1.5 to 2 cents on average.

while that figure has been posted many times, some in fact view miles as 1 cent sometimes even less.

However I think most FTers would say they've used miles at a much better avg, I know I have.

& Welcome !

In retired a couple of years ago; I have the time to travel. The wife, still wants to work, so most of my trips are solo.

I am very flexible on hotels--I need my own toilet and shower, so not so flexible that I would stay in a hostel. But other than that I will stay in very humble places.

When a flight is longer than about 3 hours, though, I won't go unless I am in business/first class. So, for overseas and down to South America, the cost of business class is the deciding factor. And traveling overseas in business class using ff miles is almost impossible. I managed to get over to Europe this past year using ff miles and I have another trip booked this year. But I booked both of those trips about nine months in advance. Frankfurt seems to be the easiest place to get business class tickets to Europe for 100,000 miles.

I am primarily hoping to find strategies for finding discounted business class airfare.

Have you tried a good travel agent? An agent who specializes in business/first class travel has huge contacts and deals. Might have upgrade coupons, a Y to J/J to F upgrade contract, know of carriers that are offering deals, or make a suggestion that instead of using that 'big name' carrier to connect to your destination, you use a 'small' carrier for half the price, still earning miles, and get better treatment.

Another idea, look for using your miles to upgrade from a low price [not lowest] fare. Many more opportunities for travel.

First time seeing this thread from the Talkmail newsletter. I'm a project manager living in Europe with employees and customers scattered across Europe and the Middle East. I travel frequently between Europe, the Middle East, and the US. Honestly I'm not sure why I signed up for FT in the first place or even chose this username in 1995 - I probably saw it on TV while signing up! I didn't start posting until several years later, when - of course - I had a bad flight experience and needed to vent!

jolieand...have you tried consolidators?

Hello to All

My name is Herman. I am 70 and live on the Lummi peninsula near the Straits of Georgia in Washington state, not far from the Canadian border.

Retired now, having worked in data processing beforehand - programmer, analyst, lead systems analyst, etc.

Lived in Los Angeles for 29 years and adored the excitement of LAX and watching the airplanes and listening to approach, departure, and the tower.
Also lived in Bogota, Colombia, for several years.

Am owned by an imperious basset hound intergalactic princess named Priscilla.

My real, honest-to-goodness wish for SO LONG was to be a flight attendant. Most of the time I was too tall, just to start with. But, I got an interview with Continental in 1972, and 2 interviews with PanAm in 1988, 2 months before Lockerbie. Neither one accepted me. I truly would have made a great employee, understanding the concept of customer service. But, it did not happen.

Glad to be here. Maybe my user ID should have been Flight Attendant Wannabe instead of Hermanding. Incidentally, that ID is my name and my nickname put together. :)

Hello everyone, we live in NZ and it's been some time since we travelled on a long haul flight. Yes cycling is my love hence the name. Recently retired having worked for a medical company for a number of years. Happily married and have 3 sons.

Planning a trip this year to London and can't decide whether to go with Air NZ our national carrier where we both have airpoints or to fly with Singapore Airlines. Are airpoints & krisflyer points the same?

Hello everyone

While I've known about this forum for quite some time, I've only recently become a regular visitor. My previous job/career had me traveling 2-3 times per year for professional reasons, on top of which I'd add 1-2 international trips of a personal nature. Now, however, I've switched jobs/careers, and have racked up almost 30,000 miles in 4 months, all domestic. Thus, I have a greater need to learn from those that are much more expert than I.

I live just north of San Francisco, with my wife and two young children. I have the good fortune of being able to sneak away every so often for solo trips somewhere random in the world, and I thank my wife for her generosity in letting me leave the kids with her. With all the miles I'm accruing now (air, hotel, and car), I suspect that I'll be able to ramp up the in-kind trips for her (we're going to Bali in June) with very little impact to our bottom line.

I look forward to learning more from everyone here.

-enki
