Greetings.

I already have a few posts, including a couple trip reports where I have written a little about myself, but I haven't officially introduced myself.

My name is David. I'm 31 years old, although in a little over a week I'll be 32. I'm from Southeast Mexico, and that's where I have spent most of my life. I've also lived in Missouri and Iowa, USA, and I currently live in Rome, Italy. I'm still a student, although not for too long. I'm preparing to be a Roman Catholic priest, which should happen in about a year and a half. In my pre-seminary life, I was a computer engineer, and I remember making plans to get a job that would take me all over the world. Although my life has taken a different path, I still love traveling. And although the budget is limited, FT has been a good source of information on how to support my hobby.

Welcome David.
As one who is studying to be a priest, I would suggest you stay out of OMNI/PR! ;)
Although, it would certainly make for some interesting conversation if you're willing to share some personal things about your decision process.
Anyhow, good luck, and welcome to Flyertalk!

The two trip reports I've written so far, have been in Y to destinations that most people here have visited. I'm not sure if these reports bring anything new to the plethora of great reports in here, but just in case, I'm writing a new one.

your trip reports do bring something new, please keep them up.^ Good luck with your preparation to become a priest.

chillinthemost, thank you for the suggestion. I think I'm safe, at least for now, since I don't even have access to that part of the site.

Hi!

I came here by way of googling about my 50k points- Southwest CC offer that I accepted last week. Since my husband and I live in Baltimore, the Southwest points are really useful. I started reading a few blogs (Million Mile Secrets, New Girl in the Air, etc) and I think I've found a new hobby and/or obsession.

Thankfully the husband lets me control the finances, so I can do credit cards in both of our names.

We only travel for leisure, so I'll have a harder time accruing zillions of miles than people that travel for business, but I'm excited to try. I love a good deal.

I'm an applied physicist that climbs, swims, lifts weights, does yoga, reads a ton, and tries to use all her vacation hours every year. :)

A little about me...

I am a Canadian gal from Vancouver Island, BC and now live and work in Riviera Nayarit (near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico). My hubby and I have been to Panama, Belize, Costa Rica, Florida, Ohio, California, Oregan, the Carribbean, and other parts of the world. We enjoy travel, and decided to make our home base international. Vancouver Island is absolutely beautiful, with mild winters but it RAINS and is cloudy for over 9 months out of the year. Riviera Nayarit has sunny perfect warm weather 9 months out of the year (gets hot and humid in the summer) so it's easy to see why we're here. We have 2 dogs (Shiba Inu's) and flew them here with us. We've also driven our truck from Canada to Mexico. :) Any info you'd like on Mexico travel, long term rentals, buying a place in Mexico as a foreigner, I'm happy to relay my experience & info I've gathered.

Welcome ! you may not accure zillions but I'm pretty sure with some effort you can get to at least one zillion by reading Flyertalk:) FWIW, many here travel on their own dime.

it is, there are few places in this world where I'd want to move to, Vancouver Island is one of them. Welcome:-::-:

Hey,

My name is Graham. I'm 35 and work and live in DC as a consultant (spawn of the devil). I've got the transportation bug, and have been on this site for awhile. Mostly lurking. I travel domestically with some frequency. Currently around 30-50K miles a year. And I'd like to squeeze in an international trip once a year to somewhere cool.

I'm a Sagittarius and like long walks on the beach and ... wait. Wrong site.

DuhWane Jan 18, 2012 11:38 am

I am one of those lurkers that have been here from the beginning. I try not to insert myself for the sake of ego-driven insertion (thus the <300 posts). I live in the Houston area and have been a road warrior for most of my adult life.

My airline loyalty has been predominantly CO (I guess I need to start calling it UA now), where I am Infinite Platinum, soon to be Infinite 1K (thanks merger team - that was the right call). My hotel loyalty belongs to Hyatt, where I've been Diamond now for 15 consecutive years and counting (at least I am).

I have a wife of 10 years (who I adore) and a couple of kids in high school (when I stay home for longer than a couple of days, I tend to get into "their business" a little too much, usually soliciting a comment such as "Dad, don't you need to be on the road in front of customers?") When I'm not strapped to an airline seat, I can usually be found talking to customers around the world, helping them evolve their data center infrastructures (or at least dragging them kicking and screaming into some time period closer to this century).

Hello, everyone. I don't think I've ever posted here, so maybe it's about time! I've been a member for many years, but also have a strong sense of privacy, so it's not a surprise to me if I haven't said anything before.

When I joined FlyerTalk, I was the quality manager for a software company in Chicago. When the economy went down the toilet in 2008, they decided they didn't need a testing staff (I understand they've been paying for that decision ever since!) and I was laid off. After a brief stint as a financial adviser (great work, but the industry is too highly overregulated for my liking, even if they deserve it) I moved back to Seattle, where my family had moved during my absence.

Now I'm a tax professional and genealogist -- neither field is guaranteed to be full-time income, but I get to do two things I love. I have my own business, and just this month I was designated an Enrolled Agent by the IRS, meaning I can represent any taxpayer before any staff level of the IRS for any reason (anyone who isn't an EA, CPA, or attorney is limited to representing taxpayers before certain lower-level IRS employees and only in regard to returns the preparer did for the client).

I grew up in an airline family. My dad spent most of his working life with United, I worked there a couple years, my brother worked there until he was hurt on the job, a cousin was a mechanic, and another cousin worked for one of those other airlines (OK, he was a pilot for TWA until he was laid off after the purchase by AA). Back in the days when there were actually empty seats on airplanes, and before I lost my pass privileges, I would spend weekends just flying around the country, just because I love airplanes and airports. My most memorable trip, covering one Saturday/Sunday, was SFO-RNO-EKO-ELY-SLC-DEN-BOI-SEA-LAX-CLE-CRW-ATL-AVL-RDU-EWR-SFO.

Since I'm working for myself now and not on salary, my income naturally is down quite a bit so I don't fly as much as in the recent past. I used to go to the UK up to four times a year just to ride the trains (another hobby) or spend time in London. My airline of choice is UA (yes, I've tried others), but I haven't flown them post-merger so don't know if I'll still be happy with the experience. I would say CO was the best airline I'd ever flown, but that was in the pre-Lorenzo days. CO would also be the worst, during those days, if it weren't for South Pacific Island Airways (SPIA), which had the military contract between HNL and GUM when I was stationed there. That airline was eventually shot down by the FAA for gross safety violations (flying polar routes without authorization, and straying over Soviet airspace on more than one occasion).

Okay, that's enough. I could go on and on, but I'll spare you!
