Hello - a quick intro from another long-time reader. I went ten years without much international travel, then changed jobs and started doing more - just as the airlines started putting the squeeze on service!

Anyway, I've often referred to Flyertalk for information in that time - generally on matters of comfort in the back, since that's where my size 13s and I have to travel. Now I've travelled a bit more, I reckon I may be able to contribute something useful, hence the belated decision to sign up.

My recent flying is all solo and all on business; with the family I holiday in northern Europe and travel by car and ferry. I live only 30 minutes west of Heathrow but I've not been on a BA flight since 2000; the company travel office tends to favour Star carriers, with the occasional AF/KLM option for variety.

Hi there -

Expat Scot living in New York. Have been lurking for some years and absolutely love Flyertalk. Have gone from Silver to Platinum in the last three years on Continental, mainly due to the advice I've gleaned from the forums. Did my first mileage run last year and loved it.

I fly about 50,000 miles per year for business, and the rest is personal. My wife is from Lima, and my family are in Scotland - both served by direct flights on Continental - yay!

My new friends

Hello new friends! I'm happy to be a part of flyertalk and I am exited to learn from your expertise about earning miles and points! A little but about myself:
I am a 24 year old recent grad. While studying theater and working part time, I managed to go on 4 study abroad trips and visit 15+ countries while racking up miles. Currently I work as an extra on tv shows and movies and in my free time I'm planning my next trip or a scheme you get more miles/points.

Looking forward to learning from you all.

Soon to be FF

Thought I had better introduce myself here as this may become my home-away-from-home. Up until now, I've flown about once a year, always on business (medical conferences). I've taken a new job consulting, effective in the end of February. I will be flying out of GRR to a client site every Monday, and returning back every Thursday. Typically, will be making the same trip for 1-2 year deployments, 45-48 weeks a year. (All domestic). I would appreciate any tips, advice, or guidance the seasoned veterans on this board can provide. I'm making my way through all of the sticky notes now, but I'm sure there are some other great conversations out there I'm missing..... (FWIW I have not yet "chosen" an airline, hotel, or rental car chain....although I'm leaning towards Delta and Hilton).

About me - I am a craft beer geek and a music fanatic. I could talk about either all day!

Wally in Des Moines here.

I do software consulting and last year flew about once a month but am starting to travel even more now. Try to fly Delta as much as I can since I did most of my flying with NWA before the merger and had a lot of miles with them. Starting to use United a bit more to save money for my clients, as I have to go to NYC area a lot and they seem much cheaper than Delta lately.

For hotels I try to stay at Hiltons as much as possible. Love HGI's for lower cost options. They have everything you could need!

This place has been great with tons of links to get bonus offers or just tips for travel. Thanks everyone for posting!!

Hello,

Used to travel much more, when I worked in the trade show industry. Have been using AA as primary for years, even though I live practically next door to OAK (which they abandoned).

Did recently get to cash in lots of miles for a wonderful trip to Australia, and got to experience JAL and Qantas in business, plus nice lounges at NRT, MEL, and AKL.

I'm learning lots from reading, and very happy to see how nice everyone here seems!

GRIZMANfromJAPAN

Quick intro = Retired vet (USAF) of 22 years - have been to Japan (15 yrs) Turkey (3 yrs) Korea (1 yr) other than training only 2 assignments (Texas & Minnesota) stateside. Looking forward to all the great info being passed on. New to the Airline mileage game. Trying to get all the info on the best way to make flights easier on the body. Want to travel to different places along with my wife. I have 2 boys. One is an Air Traffic Controller working out of CA. When you fly through the LA control area, he might be the one working your plane (good flying). More to follow as becomes of interest to the rest of you.

Is there where I introduce myself? If so,

Just stumbled upon this site last week and finally was able to sign up and start posting. My wife and I reside in upstate NY and are mid 20's and early 30's. We love to travel and it keeps getting better and better as time goes on. We got engaged and married at Secrets Maroma Beach in Riviera Maya, MX. We just recently celebrated our one year anniversary in Maui and was fortunate to stay some of the time at Four Seasons Wailea.

Being from the Northeast we go to Capecod pretty often (3-4x a year). But we are growing sick of the cold NY winters. I am finishing my degree in Accounting up this coming December and are looking to move asap. We are visiting Houston this year to see friends and to check out the area.

I look fwd to reading and posting.

Take care,
Kevin

Hi Everyone,

Just found this place a few days ago and signed up. I'll be traveling frequently with a new job, so it would be nice to learn from those who have been doing it a long time. I'll be flying mostly in the Southeast US on Airtran and Delta.

Anyway, glad to know a place like this exists and looking forward to talking with you.

Welcome to FT! You'll want to take a look at the various airline forums for those airlines you mentioned. Also, I've asked the moderators to move this thread into the Community Buzz forum, which is really more of where it should go. In the future, should you need to alert a moderator to a post, simply click the red triangle under your user name (or the user name for the person who made the post).

rsking, welcome to FlyerTalk!

Per kipper's suggestion, I've moved this to the CommunityBuzz forum and its moderators may decide to merge this with an apt thread for members who share a bit about their interests. Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator, TravelBuzz.
