I haven't posted here yet, but your website is great for people that are looking for answers to travel questions. Most questions are answered without having to post. Nice job all around.

Here's me, in a post I made on United's facebook page and sent to their customer service earlier this week:

United, it seems as if you re-evaluated your policy regarding pets. Good for you. Now, how about re-evaluating the stuff you've pulled from your (loyal) elites?

I have (well, had) proudly flown ZERO flights on airlines not named (or affiliated with) United in over ten years. I didn't even bother with looking at another site for flights past United.com, regardless of price, because your Mileage Plus and E+ programs WERE second to none. My Dad has flown about a million miles on your airline, but only 700K since Mileage Plus was implemented in 1984. We're a small family business that travels about 30K/yr for work. Now that our Premier status seems like it will be worth about as much as Enron stock starting next week, you're forcing us to look elsewhere for an airline that might pick up where you're leaving off. Is there one out there? I don't know. Are we your #1 customer? Not remotely close. What I do know is that your changes are giving thousands of people the thought of entertaining a switch in affiliation, which is beyond comprehension to me. All of this for something as little as taking away E+ access at the time of booking.

Like any other industry, our family business is affected by consolidation of customers. Our customer "base" is getting smaller and smaller, and we are somewhat driven by our bigger customers. This is understandable. However, we go out of our way to make sure that our smaller (loyal) customers feel as much appreciated as possible as our larger customers, because those are the people that put us in business in the first place. Do they deserve or can we give them the same perks as our bigger customers? No, nor should they expect them. I sure don't expect the same perks as your more frequent flyers. However, I would expect that my loyalty be continually rewarded, not restricted. It's almost like a slap in the face.

I'm sure there are THOUSANDS of loyal people out there that would agree with what I'm saying. As a loyal customer of 10 years (and my Dad of 40+), I guess it isn't too much to ask for you to do the right thing and CONTINUE to take care of your loyal customers. As of today, your Mileage Plus program that starts on March 3rd is not doing this.

p.s. A business tip: Next time, when announcing negative changes to your frequent flyer program, do it at the beginning of the year. That way more and more people don't feel swindled by you when they continue to give you their loyalty for the entire year, to be rewarded with what you have in place starting next week. It seems petty at best.

So, now I'm here to find if there is a better answer out there, for someone that NEEDS the extra legroom of E+. I'm 6'5" and my knees can't take the seatbacks in Economy on United. I've noticed recently that JetBlue has 3" extra of legroom in economy, nevermind the 4" past that in "Even More Legroom" seats. I'm going to be flying JetBlue for the first time on April 1 (no fooling). I have "Even More Legroom" seats, and will also check to see if the 3" that JetBlue economy provides past United economy is something that could work for me.

99% of the time, I fly BOS, PVD, or MHT to ORD, LAX, LAS, MCO, and DFW. JetBlue goes to all of those places from my area, and I'm considering a switch to them. The perks of being able to upgrade to FC relatively easily with miles will be gone, but I can't risk having an economy seat on United now that my E+ access at booking will be gone next week.

I will be sticking with United for the remainder of 2012 (as a trial), which will carry my P2 status into 2013.

I didn't know whether to post this here, or elsewhere, so sorry if this is in the wrong spot. Does anyone have suggestions?

Hi the professional79 and welcome to FT!

This is a thread for welcoming people and introducing themselves.

To get your question above answered, pls think of a descriptive title and start a new thread in The United Airlines Forum, re-posting your question above.

Welcome. I am like you, fairly new at posting. Just jump right in on the discussions. There is a lot going on with the merger of CO and UA and a lot of discussions about many aspects. I learned if you use the search feature, it will help you find what you are seeking.

Welcome to both of you!

Hello Everyone!

I just discovered this site and have been enjoying reading up. Amazing when you learn a little, you realize just how much you don't know. I look forward to learning more, maybe one day I'll be able to contribute. - Jonathan

Introductions

Hi all,

I've been lurking here for a while and think it's now time to join in.

I'm a 33 year old guy living and working in London, and my ambition in life is to visit every country in the world. I love flying and usually get in around 60 sectors a year, all for pleasure rather than business. As I do a lot of travelling, and I pay for it myself, I'm generally looking for the lowest fares possible, and find bizarre routings with lots of stops much more fun that flying direct. I consider myself good at finding cheap flights (originally short haul but increasingly long haul) but after reading some of the stuff on here, it seems like I still have a lot to learn!

I'm with US Airways' Dividend Miles scheme (randomly joined on a whim a few years ago after flying LGA - BNA via CLT) and achieved Silver for the first time last year. I hope to keep Silver this year and Gold may yet be a possibility depending on who I fly with for a couple of trips later in the year.

I'm saving up my miles for a business class return Europe - Oz / NZ but also like the perks of haiving status, such as complimentary First Class upgrades on US within the USA.

Cheers
kingstontoon

Hey friends, so I've been bumming around this site, mostly in the UA and CX forums, but haven't really introduced myself to the community at large. I'm currently a college student at Northwestern. I love to fly, but can never seem to find the time/money to do all these mileage runs, so i just have to satisfy myself with slowly accruing BIS miles, with a handy Premier Pass to keep those company.

Frequent Destinations: TPE, HKG, SFO, SJC, ORD

I'm in a similar situation. Been bumming around for several years, a member for about 3, and post every so often on various travel topics that appeal to me. I run the website HotelDealsRevealed.com and consider myself to be an expert on Hotwire and Priceline, although i'm always amazed by the knowledge of some peeps here at FT. Spend most of my time traveling to YVR, SEA, and SFO, but I'm off to HNL in just 10 days ;-) Oh yea, I have 3 kids that keep me pretty busy too.

I'm a 42 year old Army Officer, who has a hard time getting status. I gain status, the usually get sent to remote locations that preclude travel...and subsequently loose my status.

I feel like it's "the flavor of the month" all the time. Currently hold over a million miles, saving to take my family to Europe one day.

Wally in Des Moines here.

Joined recently after lurking for a few months. Also from the Des Moines area. Flying is always last minute with unpredictable schedule from week to week.

Nice to know there are so many other folks out there who also actually enjoy flying to work instead of driving. :) And so appreciate those who share their knowledge and experiences. Hope to join those ranks one day, to pay back the things I've learned from you'all !

wow, good to see, lots of recent who we all are introductions. Welcome to Flyertalk

Some folks wonder about a good means to contribute to the Flyertalk community. Besides Points/Miles, you can also go to the forums that discuss where you live or travel to: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/travel-dining-161/

A good way to contribute is post local knowledge about where you live/travel to (restaurants, activities, festivals, best ferry/train to catch, etc etc), a great way to assist those traveling to your area.
