We leave DUS Monday at 4:35 p.m. for LHR/JFK and then go down to DC on Tuesday, 7/22 through Wednesday 7/23 for a meeting. Then back to NYC. We are just sooooo global. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

YIKES, I just realized that the Brewfest is the next weekend. Maybe I am too old for this kind of thing. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif

In celebration of the impending DUS gathering, I had an alt and a kolsch last night at my local pub. (Am doing 6 hours in Cologne a few days before DUS) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Is anyone heading back to AMS a couple of days after the DUS weekend?

BlondeBomber Jun 28, 2003 4:47 pm

Well looks like I will be in Inner Mongolia now (a bit of http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif and a bit of http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ).

Finally going back to work after two months of SARS related delays. But it means I will have to miss out on Dusseldorf with my friends.

I'll be thinking of you . . .

Looks like another suggested activity for Sunday, July 20 (after the farewell get-together at Bernie's from noon to 3 PM) will be the following:

6 PM: Watch TV broadcast of FINA World Championship swimming 100 butterfly semi-finals (taking place in Barcelona), in which Natalie Coughlin is expected to compete. (Assuming there is a broadcast of it; tom911 thinks the Eurosports network may have it.)

TWO WEEKS TO GO

Due to some cancellations everything will be fine for the Saturday trip to the castle. If there will be just 1-3 pax more than the coach's capacity, I'll go with my own car to Schloss Burg to accomodate those. There is still no limit to the dinner Friday night. But I urgently need to know who would prefer vegetarian food that night !!! (see regular menu on page 4 - 4/24 - update (2) )

Everybody will receive an email with an attached excel sheet with the latest details incl. Hotel, arr and dep dates, no of pax etc.

If someone does not receive this mail, please let me know immediately

For those getting in on Thurs, do you want to meet up for drinks and/or dinner if you arrive in time? Bernie said he'd suggest somewhere.

I arrive 2ish on Thurs. I know mjm gets in 8'ish & said to leave a note at hotel on where we'll be or call to let him know. jerrya.laska gets in 1ish.

belle3388 & RTW*Alliance, what time do you all get in Thurs? From Bernie's chart, 2 of us are at the Hilton & 2 at the Nikko. I'm flexible on place to meet/drink/eat.

I'm also up for drinks/dinner/swim meet competition tv watching/etc for Sun eve.

We are into DUS via BA. Arrive at 3:45 PM and are up for dinner. We are staying at Hilton. FYI Bernie. I did not receive a spreadsheet if it has already been sent. Thanks. Let us know about dinner. Happy to meet at Hilton or Nikko. Need to figure a way to the Nikko sooner or later. Looking forward to meeting you all! Regards

rtwstar.. ygm ... sorry.

Re: thursday night.
May I suggest we have dinner in some typical Düsseldorf restaurant like a brewhouse (instead of some int'l restaurant). Meet at the Nikko at 8pm. There isn't any restaurant in the Hilton area anyway. Just let me know via email.

Re: locations in Düsseldorf
You'll all get some more info the next days including exact locacion of any point of interest.

As it is DB I suspect I shall arrive punktlich at 20:11 when my ticket says I should be there. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif As such and not wanting to hold everybody up, I will quickly make my way over to the hotel, drop my gear in my room after checking in and hussle over to wherever you may be. Just leave a note and I shall be right over after I arrive. Been too long since I have sampled the fare and bier over there and I will be very ready to get to the sampling.

To say I am excited now that we are only two weeks away would be a very big understatement. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Bis gleich everybody,

Mike

bernie - Thanks for the e-mail. I'm looking forward to meeting you and everyone else who is attending. I'll be travelling alone. You have me listed as "restlessinRNO + friend". This is not correct. It's just me. I only need one reservation; you may wish to adjust your records.

Any recommendations for getting from the DUS airport to the Nikko hotel? This is my first trip to DUS. Is there a train or airport bus, perhaps.

I'm arriving the morning of July 18 on LH 437. I wonder if anyone would like to meet informally for drinks Friday afternoon at the hotel. I note that dinner is 8 pm.

Again, thank you for organizing this.

bernie Jul 3, 2003 2:05 am

Airport to the Nikko ? best bet would be a cab. Takes some 10-15 mins. Fare 15 €.

There is also a train (S-Bahn), but it's quite a walk to the train station though in the terminal building. You'd be at the Nikko already http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I may have to head down to Munich Tues/Wed, but should be back in Dusseldorf for Thursday night dinner myself - shall be hanging around Nikko lobby at 8pm that night, so see some of you then. Local style meat and bier sounds good to me!

Just a rate alert to anyone else who has booked the Four Points: A couple months ago when I booked, the best cancellable, refundable rate I could find was 95 Euros (for one person, more for two), which included breakfast, VAT, and minibar soft drinks.

Since then, their rates have dropped. There are now "World Travel" rates as low as 62.50 Euros (one person) or 72.50 Euros (two people) for the same thing. The next lowest rate above that is a "Lastminute" rate of 65 Euros for one or 85 for two. All of these are cancellable with no penalty up to 4 PM day of arrival. (You may have to use the "rearrange list" by "average daily rate, low to high" to easily find these rates.)
