So, if the Nikko is that close to the train station, it follows logically that the Four Points would be about a 15-min. walk from the station?

Or a short taxi ride with a not-too-disgruntled driver? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Well, I'm a 15-minute cab ride or public transport, so no walking for me from Hilton to Nikko. But if I had luggage even of the carry-on kind, I'm not into walking for 15minutes with it behind me (a walk of 15 minutes to get to the hotel w/o luggage for meeting place is a dif story) - so that's my input.

I also noticed that Bernie mentioned 'casual but nice' a couple of times for Fri din at Radio Tower, which implies not jeans. I wasn't going to wear jeans, but fyi for others...

I emailed Bernie privately to say THANKS for putting all this together but since we're all doing the public thing - BERNIE THANKS!!!

And BTW - I'm really looking forward to this & meeting all of you!! Cheers.

I never wear jeans when traveling anyway. I don't look good in them and they take too long to dry when washed!

However, my interpretation of "casual but nice" may differ from other peoples'....

No other than the Nikko is within walking distance from the main station. Without any luggage you might wanna walk from the 4pts to the Nikko or to my place though (10-12min). Hilton is a 7-10 min cab ride from downtown.
Re: dresscode for Friday night. Germans are much more relaxed on that issue than Americans are. Many of the people in the restaurant will leave after the fireworks display for the "Kirmes" and will dress accordingly (roller coaster rides etc.). Men wearing jeans and a nice shirt will be dressed properly and almost everything will be OK (as long as you don't look as if you just had washed your car or finished your garden work)

These days, many (most?) of us have rolling luggage.

For me, rolling my luggage for 15-20 minutes on the street is not so bad. I've done it before.

Or will the streets be too crowded, making it inconvenient to do this?

PUH ....

You'll find (I hope) everything interesting about our upcoming DUS III event HERE. You'll need to click the (old) "FT Rose Monday" link to get to the details. Sorry my FTP server denied each and every try to change that to "FT Düsseldorf in Summer".

You'll have the schedule under "events" and all exact locations (with fully functional city map / printable) and some info on Düsseldorf and the "Kirmes" under facts.

To get an impression of what to expect go to "Bilder" --> "Bilder 3" ... and if you wanna see what "Ft Rose Monday" was like ... see "Bilder 1" and "Bilder 2".

I've made reservations at "Brauerei Schumacher" near to the Nikko for Thursday night. I'd greatly appreciate, if everyone, who wants to join would send me an email so I wouldn't hold a too small or big number of seats: mailto:[email protected][email protected]</A>

See you next week.

I'll see if I can bring back a tray of fresh Turkish Delight for the Friday evening. Anyone that needs a month old "antique" hand knotted silk rug fom the covered Bazaar please email me. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Dunno about that, but if you brought back a couple kilos of fresh Pistachios, I'm sure you'd be very popular at Bernie's farewell on Sunday. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Why are folks so keen for ME to bring in 'packages' from Istanbul? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I've seen 'Midnight Express' one time too many times to get excited about that. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I just found out the Turkish Lira is 1,400,000 to one $US. If I can get to a bank I'll grab a handful of new one Million Lira notes to hand around to anyone interested. Not since Bolivia in the mid 80s have I visited somewhere where a million currency units were worth less than a buck. (And these guys want to join the EEC?!)
